Rubbish.

Its simple: India is squandering money on "show" and not spending it on its needy - and even worse, expecting others to pick up the slack.

India doesn't need a man in space, it needs to feed and educate its children.

Recently they've lifted over 200million out of abject poverty...may not be good enough for YOUR high standard but I call that progress. India was the begging bowl of the world in the 60's (Soon after colonisation) so i dont think they need patronising right wingers like yourself giving them advice. As you made it clear in tons of your posts and threads, you have a obsession/hangup about it all...bigger hang up then even me given my 'roots'.

By the way in one of your earlier posts you started off saying "mate..." We're not remember, youve threatened me before.

True but woopie do!! 200+ years for a railway line, great.

What is clearly britain's legacy in india is the democratic heritage left behind which has left the country richer. Leads to slower economic progress but worth it.

I would rank some of the other "soft" infrastructures higher then democracy, but i get what you mean.

I would also add that Britain gained enormously in the same "soft" infrastructures - much of what we think of as British were actually copied from or derived from India or the indian period. The Civil Service, for instance, has its real heritage in the ICS. The India connection had a HUGE impact upon the UK, its structure and social thinking.

I still think the Uk left India in a much better position than it found it. :)

NO - other peoples money has lifted 200 million out of abject poverty whilst India played with men in space.

All that rebuilding, once India and Pakistan have chucked a few nukes at one another, will be worth a fortune to someone.

Sadly the path to the first world is quite as easy as it looks, and involves attitude.....
