I dislike very angry people who are so wrapped up in their anger they totally lose sight of all normality, all perspective and all the simple things in life take on a massive epic sort of proportion because they can't let go of the past. I also hate carrots with tomato ketchup anywhere on the plate. It's absolutely vile. The colour clashes for a start and the taste... so slimy and wrong. Just WRONG! Old people chewing gum with their mouths open, so you can see the rubbery grey thing being tossed around their chops whilst they make smacking noises with it all. It's DISGUSTING!!! |

Finally, someone shares my view on carrots clashing with tomato sauce. You're right, it's a wrong combination... on so many levels. But life is full of this type of challenge and injustice. I admit to being mildly irked when someone has used the last long handled teaspoon and I do prefer a particular clothes peg colour

Yes I know. If someone wanted to really play with my head they'd put the pink clothes pegs in the cutlery drawer and send me out to the washing line to stir my coffee. God life's hard :D

They do it because it's probably more correct.
The word comes from the French word, Marron, meaning chestnut. It seems the English didn't start saying 'maroon' until quite late on in the general scale of things and all indications point to it being 'mispronounced' by the English due to snobbery. Apparently it was 'posher' to say 'maroon' than 'marone'. English people who came to Australia bought with them the proper way to say it. The southern Irish also pronounce it as 'marone' too, so possibly it could have come from the Irish immigrants, though wordy type people believe it's the first explanation rather than the Irish.

And this one's rational...
I really, truly hate people who are 'big' in business like this woman I know who is a motivational speaker. |

Not an irrational hatred but I can't work out why my daughter will eat wasabi peas but doesn't like any spice when I make a chilli?

Indeed. But you can't expect the average expat to realise this sort of thing goes on - they think common English is right.
