We just had a briefing in this tragedy. He was a young Irish guy who has only been in Australia for a short time - could be one of the many Irish backpackers flooding into WA

I would say nothing apart from the fact that a large number of Irish folk in the recent past months have been notable around the city,in the pubs and the like.
Have Irish renters in two houses very close by. Actually rather refreshing to have them around.

I work for RT
Today, we had a briefing about this tragedy
In this briefing we were informed that the lad was Irish
This is not an opinion or viewpoint, but a fact
This is a website mainly used by emigrants to Australia
Many of these are British and Irish
Someone on here may know him, know of him etc
I posted only as a source of information

Re: Irish guy dies on Rio Tinto site
Working in the industry myself and having lost a colleague in an incident, I know how hard it is - nothing shreds the team in our industry like a fatality and nothing holds it together quite like one either - bringing workmates together that have only conversed on the phone, never met yet feel like they have known each other for years because you just know how they work and their little habits, you book their flights, their rooms, their HUETS, their training, hell you even know the size clothes they like.
You do not get over the loss of a colleague - ever, you never forget and each year you remember that person, whether you knew them for one month or one year, you knew them - they were a workmate, they were from your team.
This industry can be dangerous and comes with risk but nothing prepares you for this - nothing.
Amazulu I am so sorry you are going through this, it must be wank for you everyone at RT, and my heart goes out to this guy and his family.
Stick together with your colleagues because in Oil/gas/mining - it is such a close knit community, its the only way you get through shit like this.

I have moved the off topic posts. Please let this thread now stay as it was originally intended, a thread about a very sad event.

Re: Irish guy dies on Rio Tinto site
It is indeed a very sad event. Hopefully his family receive the support they need, I've no doubt they will. Hopefully they'll get any information they need from an inquest and/or any other investigations.
