*note* Users of other (inferior) phones who only viewed this thread to have a pop, in order to somehow make up for the inadequacy they feel with regard their mobile phone, naff off, we don't care.

Right. This is a list of the apps on my iPhone. If you have some cool apps please install the software linked on that page and share. Particularly interested in hearing which games people rate.

Have you tried uStream?

I have gmail, ebay, fb and youtube on my phone - along with lots of other things that I don't know how to use :o but it's not an iphone, it's a Nokia Eseries (whatever that means :D)

So is my phone inferior then? I wouldn't know the difference anyway hehe

My daughter has an iPod touch but not the iphone, it uses apps, but it's too advanced for me. I don't understand any of it.

She reckons her Xenon phone and ipod touch beats the iphone hands down.

Yeah, UStream works very well indeed.

I'm so glad you started this thread, I'm thinking of getting one.

I want to know if anyone has them with Optus, can you send and recieve mms to the UK (as I can't now on my inferior phone).

I have some bets on with ladbrokes, if Petter Northug wins the Tour De Ski I can get an iPhone!

I would love an iPhone :( I'm gonna have a quick look through your applications to see if there is anything I could use to justify having one as a student.

I dont know of any provider who does mms to UK and back - I asked around at one stage and no one did. Vodafone said they did but then said they didnt so I dont know if they do or not.

I'm still an iphone newbie and dont have too many applications on it but I do use Epocrates, Solitaire City (only one I have paid for - love Casket!!!), Cribbage lite, Qantas, St George mobile banking, bubble wrap (sad!) isolve lite (not that impressed) zoom photo, London traffic cams, tap sudoko (like that one), PWAU lite (like that one better than standard weather as well).

I havent quite worked out yet how Docs to Go would synch - what happens with that? How do I synch it with my PC? Also on the look out for a good database which synchs with Access somehow (how would that work?).

I dont use a Mac for most of my work but I would like to synch my to do list from Outlook - is there a way of doing that?

That would be right, I think. I tend to email pics from the phone to DS these days.

Last time I tried Urbanspoon there wasn't a lot of Australian content on it. Has it improved much?

Doesn't work on 3G or Wi-Fi. iPhone has built in VPN support though and would probably work okay with that.

You just need to install the desktop Documents to Go application and then run it at the same time as the Documents to Go app is running on the iPhone. Then just drag and drop and hit the Sync button.

Thanks for those. I use DtoG all the time on my Palm so it sounds pretty much the same. I was anxious that it would involve clouds in some way like the Palm Pre has ended up doing.

Will check out toodledo as well. I was surprised that iphone didnt come loaded with a task manager

Yep and it works well, but you need a car charger becuase it runs down the battery.
And depending on the car you have to mount the phone on the dash to get a strong signal.

They just did an upgrade and it now goes online to download speed camera info :)

I've got Sygic on mine. It was on discount one week for $59AUD so I ponied up. I think it's a great app, but it gets lousy reviews on many sites. Mind you, those are all prior to a recent massive update that added traffic updates, speed cameras and all sorts of cool downloadable goodies. I have a TomTom Go 720 in the car as well and I prefer the Sygic to the TomTom which takes a frigging eternity to lock on (five minutes start up time at best with clear skies). I had the TomTom mobile maps on my old Windows Smartphone and I thought that sucked too. I think TomTom products are the most over-rated and over-priced in the GPS market.

Yea, I can get 5Gb for a fairly reasonable fee on Optus down here, but there's sweet F.A. reception round these parts. If you want a 3G connection of any sort in the regions, it's basically Telstra or nothing.

I dont have any trouble with that - maybe there was something that needed to be enabled? It would be worth giving them a call because you should be able to do it without any problems.

Actually, I have a tom tom but wanted to try something on my Phone just for the convenience. What I like about the tom tom is the way it suggests points of interest at you current location or your destination. Very handy. Dont know if others do that. But like yours, it takes ages to find a signal at first. I may need a new iphone car holder as the one I have sits down by the gear stick.

Yea, I get the P.O.I.s. exactly like the TomTom, near position, near address, near destination, in city etc. Search on address or post code, etc. I have a Belkin TuneBase for the phone, which is one of the few designed specifically to work with the 3GS. works fine.

Would you mind telling me the resonable fee? What are the costs if you go over?

I can text in Australia, but not to UK mobiles.
But daft thing is I can have a telephone call to the same UK mobile numbers!

Rang virgin and they say I should be able to text the UK mobiles if I can ring them and have a normal call.
They have passed my query on to the engineers.

Ive looked on my phone but cant see anything that is stopping the overseas texting.

hmm, I'd be screaming over that. I know phone providers have deals with certain phone providers and not others in some countries. The 3 network is a ball ache to text from overseas usually.

Virgin being in both countries you'd think you be no problem?

Take it back!
