I think they all have the 'blip' at one stage.

My middle one was leaving home, life was unfair, all friends parents were cool, life sucks.... blah de blah 3 teenagers heard it all before, yawn....

After 3 rounds it I said right, lets draw you up some expenses you will need to find. Rent, food, electricity, car payment, petrol, insurance, medical expenses, dentist, phone payment............. We got to about 400 a week even on his estimations, then I offered to help him find a place

Eldest at one stage left to live with girlfriends parents, it lasted about 3 weeks before they found out what an annoying little turd he could be

I think they like the reaction they get, sending the parents into a spin, creating emotional turmoil, teen drama. It gives them power.

Chill as they say. They will be back, unless their life really is hell and I dont think thats what we are talking here at all, probably more like my kids, a bit spoilt and need a reality check.
