I'm over it. Effing OVER it!

Right. Rant time - I think I need one.

So I took a few months out from my corporate job to finish my Personal Trainer qualifications. I've been working as a PT while looking to get back into corporate, and now, after six months of having to deal with these stupid recruitment agencies, I've finally had enough. I keep getting offered junior positions, and no matter how often or how loudly I repeat what I've done in the past, and that I've been doing the job for nearly 15 years, I get told I'm not good enough and that the UK market is very different to that in Aus. (Yes, different in that it's 10 years behind!)

Had a call from a stupid spotty jumped up jerk trying to get me to go back ten years in my career, saying my skills aren't transferable. Listen f*&%wit, I know this job better than you know your own bodily cavities, and I've been doing it since before you knew the taste of snot on your fingertips!

Not good enough?? Little b@stard! Then why do I keep getting calls from the UK seeing if I'm available? I'm prepared to move to Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Brisbane, Sydney - but nothing apparently, that I'm suitable for. I want to stay in Australia, at least until I get my citizenship, but at this rate, I'm thinking of going either back to Europe, or to the Middle East, Singapore, Hong Kong.

Besides that my life is upside down, way too much than I want to go into here. Tried thinking of something good, but I've drawn a blank. Nowt fantastic or even mediocre happening in the johnny show of late, so....

I'm effing, effing, effing, effing, effing, effing, OVER IT!

Thats my rant. Feel free to comment, or have your own rant.

I took a big drop in my career to make a go of it in Aus. I am also not always sure about it. I miss my UK job & all the lovely people I looked after but I accepted from the outset that I would have to step back before I could really move forward. I have good & bad days about it frankly!
If it's more than a bad day or three & you can't do this, go back! It's harsh but what else to say really other than suck it up!
Truly, I empathise!

Sorry to hear about your job situation johnnyx0. It is so frustrating and difficult to not become demotivated.

Australia is not the place to come to for career progression that's for sure. Like others have said, you need to start near the bottom and work your way back up again. It doesn't matter how great you were in UK or how much in front the UK is to Aus. The Aussie job market doesn't get it and doesn't care.

Swallow your pride, dust yourself down and play the game. The sooner you get back on the ladder the quicker you can work towards your real goals:thumbup:

Change your career then you can start at the bottom and work up again, getting a job which does not fully use your skils will be awful and I guess you would want to leave anyway. Takes a special kind of person to go backwards.

A tough one I know, but you need to get back onto the ladder even if it has to be a few rungs below where you know you should be. Once you are back on you can quickly move upwards. Good luck!

Not necessarily.

I went back to work part time recently and have now negotiated a management position at quite a high level even though it is not really what I wanted to do.

It means that I will have to work full time for a while:( but the money is OK:thumbup:

Some organisations do recognise that their systems need updating and are prepared to use the expertise available to them.

......at least it will help ease the stifling boredom of this place.

BTW.....I certainly sympathise with the OP's position as it is something we hear over and over.

Just pointing out that it is not always the case.

The advise I read on this forum before I moved over was to take a more junior job when you first get over here to prove you can work in the Australian markey then move on and up. That's what I did and I am now more senior than I would have been in the UK. I went from working from working for some of the largest institutional brokers in the world to working for a small software house so it was a bit of a comedown and a 60% salary cut once I had served my time I moved back into banking and finance, once you have your foot through the door progression is easy because to be honest with you almost all of the Australians I have worked with are incompetant fools so it's pretty easy to look good.

From an employer's perspective, you are a loose cannon. Muck up by indulging a taste for irrelevant work, can't be bothered proving you are hot shit and is not interested in giving proving your worth a fair go. Better to employ someone with deeper roots who won't blow away at the first sign of difficulty.

Yet they produced the country you and millions of others want to live in...

I wonder what they think of you
