Been living outside the UK for the past ten years and have to say it's become the Guardian and Times over time. No political agenda really, just they seem to provide the best effort on the web. There's the BBC too of course.

Otherwise I generally use www.newsnow.co.uk to get a ten-minute overview of current affairs or follow the sport, as it gives you the opportunity to browse by topic across a range of articles and sources. Definitely worth a bookmark anyway.

I'm amazed no-one has mentioned the http://www.economist.com/

I used to subscribe that magazine and its excellent online site. I love their in depth coverage and insight, and dry humour.

But then I had two little people invade my life, so I now have barely enough time to read the 'funnies' in the courier mail.

I read DM, The Guardian, The Times, Toragraph all online. I used to think the DM was a reasonable paper, but recently it seems to have gone very tabloidly (not a word, I know).

Telegraph, mostly because it has a good selection of videos. Sometimes also the Daily Mail if there's some gossipy tabloid sensation going on eg. Mills McCartney divorce.

I need my gossip on the day, the very hour it happens though. (I'm also a bit of a news junkie)

I didn't know you could get Hello! over here

The people concerned will tell me as soon as something happens that I need to know. In my experience the news that is discussed in UK newspapers has damn all to do with what is affecting my family there.

You asked what people read if they don't read the Daily Mail as though in your opinion that is the only choice. Presumably you get all the info you require from that.

I still read The Telegraph for the sport and particularly its columnists, such as Henry Winter and Patrick Barclay, and The Independent, which pretty much does what it says in the title, for the news.

Not at all. I genuinely wanted to know what papers other people advised were worth reading.
