Re: I am quitting the cigs tomorrow
Quit now,cos that next one could be the one that takes you down!
If you wanna risk pulling a oxygen bottle round with you so you can "breathe" carry on,if not throw however many smokes you have left and pull that "ill stop next monday or after my holiday" back and do it today!!
Dont be scared what its gonna be like to be without the smokes and how you will cope without smoking while drinking tea/lying on that beach/beer at night.
You will still be able to do all the above but this time with a rye smile in the knowledge that you have just stopped something that will cause serious conditions

Re: I am quitting the cigs tomorrow
I've not had a ciggy for 3 months on saturday and feel soooo much better for it. If it wasn't for the book, I think I would have gave in, but it made me look at smoking in a totally different light.
for everyone trying to give up.

Re: I am quitting the cigs tomorrow
Hello all. Never smoked but never banged on about it to convert anyone. I know how hard it is to quit as both parents have always smoked.
Been here 4 months, me, husband and sons 9 & 14. Missing Mum and Dad so much that sometimes its almost a physical pain. They are booked to visit us for a month in July and again at Christmas.
2 weeks ago Dad went to the GP. Been coughing blood for a while but kept it to himself. Next day X-ray showed large black thing in lung. Saw specialist within a week. Last week he had biopsy taken and yesterday was the full body scan. Back to the specialist next week. Not looking good and though I am trying to stay positive I honestly think he has lung cancer.
I don't want to bring anyone down now, just wanted to say that both Mum and Dad are devastated that they might not be able to come to see me and the kids and frightened about what the future holds for them.
Dad has always loved the fags. Happiest with a pint in one hand and a ciggy in the other. But if you ask him now, without a doubt he would say that he has been kidding himself all these years. Faced with not seeing the kids again he has gained some perspective and realises that he should have tried harder and given up the fags years ago.
If you are thinking that you can't do it, please read my post again. Wishing you all luck giving up, you will reap the benefits in later life I am sure xx

Smoking has always been my no.1 pet hate, can't stand the smell and it makes me sick. I'm so paranoid i don't take the kids anywhere near smokers or smoking joints, and i've never allowed anyone to smoke in my home - any rellies that visit have always been chucked outside if the want to smoke - Australia isn't as bad as the uk, everywhere you looked back home, there was someone smoking - and don't get me started on pregnant smokers!

As now an ex smoker of around six months, have to disagree with smokers are everywhere in UK, (apart from those who hang around outside pubs), seems lots of people are stopping as not really surrounded by smokers when getting on with daily life. Now average pack is well over £5 I can't see why anyone would consider starting

Re: I am quitting the cigs tomorrow
I've never smoked, but believe me - I do understand the nature of addiction, so I know how tough it must be to give up. Just coming to the end of my first week off the booze for the first time in a couple of years. Not touched a single drop in all that time - something I'd have thought impossible not so long ago - and I'm quite surprised at how much brighter and more energised I feel. Sleeping better, too. I'm not an alcoholic, but for too long now I've drunk more than I should. Whenever I've gone on the wagon before, I've vowed to keep it moderate when I start again. Each time, though, it slips: one's too much, ten's not enough...
Maybe this time I'll stay off it for good. It should help to pay for my PR fees, anyway...
Good luck all you ex-smokers. Keep it up!

Re: I am quitting the cigs tomorrow
I packed up 18th November 2008 (6 months).
As I did, I would reccomend attending a "Quit Smoking" group in your local area (ask your GP for one near you). You attend once a week for an hour in the evening and meet up with people in the same boat as you. The group organisers are qualified / trained persons who advise you on nicotine replacement products. I used Champix tablets for 12 weeks and would highly reccomend it (It does not contain nicotine, but works by blocking out the brains signal that asks your body for nicotine). It get easier after the first 2-3weeks.
Best of luck

Re: I am quitting the cigs tomorrow
Last post here was April 14th and I had stopped then. I'm still not smoking but have had many 'oh how I long for a ciggie' episodes. The thing that has stopped me from going and buying a packet has been the thought of foul taste of them. Since I have stopped, I have been through a Maths review, an Ofsted inspection and a RE inspection at my school, all of which are I found very stressful. Maybe thats the reason I'm still thinking of smoking quite a bit!
Anyway I've taken up jogging, (only do it very early morning along secluded paths as dont want to alarm anyone!) and I am able to run more now that walk.
My kitchen is free from nicotine smells and stains, My skin is in better condition, taste buds back etc etc. So good luck everyone, never give up trying to quit.
regards

Re: I am quitting the cigs tomorrow
I finally got the champix after 2 months of visits to the docs before they would prescribe. So far so good, have cut down, yep they taste horrible especially the first couple after taking champix. 6 more days to go before my stop date.
Oh, and that craving for a ciggy has virtually gone now, just basically smoking from habit not need.
Fingers crossed.
