I came across a really good idea to cut patches of them and make a quilt / blanket of all your favourite baby items. I've got a really nice one made up of noses, ears and toes :rofl:

Seriously, I have a special box for my three in which I keep all my precious stuff - first shoes, christening outfit, birthday cards, umbilical cord - you know the such. If the house was on fire, I'd be in the garage, rooting around for my photos and the kids' boxes.

I'll take a photo and post it sometime. It's a faded denim with suede fringe and little Harley Davidson wings on the back. All perfectly to scale. I had to drive about 2 hours from our house in the country to get to a Harley dealership so I could buy the little wings.

nooooo don't chuck, you will never get those things back. I still have certain baby clothes and things and always will, not long ago my mum gave me a dress that I had when I was 4 (I'm very nearly 38 now!)and had broken my arm, it was the only thing that they could get on me easily, so I wore it constantly...I will keep that too.....! :thumbup: Ems x...the kids don't understand...LOL!

OMG thats the other thing I have a quilt made of my Gran's maternity clothes my mums maternity clothes and my and my siblings baby clothes it is massive and I love it, my gran started it, my mum carried it on and I finished it !!

I thought it was a lovely idea even though it is a wild hotchpotch of colours.

I'm VERY sentimental. Iv'e have been getting so teary going through my stuff. I not to mention getting weepy at the thought of leaving England and my friends and colleagues, but it's the right decision.

We have them in boxes in our loft so if you don't have room hun i'd opt for grannie's loft.

Mind you we're still accumulating kiddie crap at a rate of knots lol.
I was thinking of maybe making a patchwork quilt at some point from the kids baby/ small kiddie clothes for each of them.
Prob sound like a right sad moo but quite like the idea.

My son uses some of his clothes for his teddies. I couldn't hold a pair of scissors to them thought as it isn't the material that I treasure but seeing it, so small, is precious to me and reminds me of who gave it to him etc, although the blanket idea is really lovely. I am getting some of his paintings laminated so they last. I was going to put a book together for his birthday and christening cards. I'd rather pay out for those things and throw them later in life than, personally, regret getting rid of them now.

I have a big sentimentality problem!:ohmy: I'm an only child and the only grandchild on both sides and the only great grandchild on two out of four sides. I have inherited EVERYTHING. Sadly both my parents and all my grand parents and great grandparents have died. I feel like I am the keeper of their legacy. I feel like my child should have the chance to inherit these things too. I already have a storage unit and loft full. I need to rationalise this stuff - otherwise we will end up with 2 x 40 foot containers!!

I'm very sentimental but need to move on with the future and let the past go!

Giving to Grannie is not a good idea:huh: when Grannie says goodbye to the world - someone has to clear all the stuff.Its more usual for Grannie to offload before she goes.

Used to keep a an old suitcase in the loft of memories - you stuff it up there and forget about it, then you open pandora's box:D Some things cannot be thrown away, but I recommend keeping them to a minimum - at the end of the day no-one can take away memories, they are with you forever.

Its a good feeling to give to whoever appreciates it - charity shop - friends - colleagues or even enemies.

A few things I did keep - the first pink baby grow my daughter wore - her first shoes, they mean a lot to me and probably she will love then too when she is older.

The past has gone, more important is the present.

Do you really need to cart around loads of stuff? No! You just need to be selective - pick a relative or friend who is good at chucking things away - they will help you prioritise the truly sentimental stuff.They better not laugh at me sniffing my daughters first baby grow, even though I have washed it.:wub:


Eventually when I am a granny and ready to say goodbye to the world - who will want my sentimental things of a hundred years?:lol: Unless its treasure.;)
