How often do you go 'home'?

I thought (before I moved out here) that I would probably go back to Europe to see people about every 2 years... now I am over here I currently really can't be arsed to go back.. don't feel like I need or want to..
Havent broken the news to my mother as of yet
.. bet I cave in and go back anyway rather than face the wrath!

I've been back six times in 30 years so that makes an average of every 5 years although I did have a 9 year gap between visits once. I only go to visit relatives and catch up with old friends.
I've never been one to keep a foot in both camps. I think it's a shame that people feel they 'must' go back so frequently for whatever reason. Apart from anything else, it's such a waste of holiday time when you could be exploring other, more exciting parts of the world

hehe.. When it comes to my turn, I think I might just pull the "not sure I can afford the 3 flights" card.. mind you, the kids are itching to go back and see everyone..

I'd be there all the time if my mum lived in Italy

One set of grandparents live in Southern Italy (my parents).. other in Southern Ireland.. then all the siblings are in England.. some in Essex, some in Birmingham...
It actually makes me feel a bit weary just thinking about the flights and the moving about etc...

when we went back recently we sort of made everyone come to us in one spot. At the end of the day we were travelling thousands of miles for the first time in 6 years, if people want to see us they can make a little bit of an effort

I do plan to spend most of my time divided between Italy and Ireland.. I am not too bothered about England.. and Italy and Ireland are where the kids' grandparents are so the siblings can come visit if need be... Mind you.. cheap flights usually go via the UK...

Due to be in Athens in July for Alumini reunion but really can't be bothered with going on to UK. Think a few days with friends in Italy/France then some diving in Maldives on return.

Likewise I just have not had any inkling to do so. There are some however who have not yet left and seek any curtail opportunity too return.
