I didn't want to go to the UK this year.... Was planning a trip in 2013, after we fully finished our reno.
The pitfall of the cheque is getting it cashed as it'll be in Sterling and you want it in dollars. There's normally a bank charge for this but not sure what the figure would be.

Going and getting the money would raise suspicions at customs and you would have to declare any amount over £10,000 to the UK side or $10,000 to the Aussies, and it'll cost you a few grand to get it (flights etc).

Isn't carrying £30K in cash from the UK into Oz asking for trouble?

Can he pop into his local branch? They can organise a international Telegraphic Transfer for him if he has your details. Normally costs about £20.

No worries. Best thing to do is ring your bank tell them you want to receive an international transfer and ask for all the details you'll need.

As just giving your dad your BSB and Account number might not cut it. Sometimes they want an IBAN number.

Tranzfers or Ozforex? Cheap, easy, quick, and with BE-friendly customer support

My inlaws go into their bank have a dollar cheque made up. Don't know how much it costs but it can't be much because the cheques are never over $100. They're in their 70/80s so it can't be complicated. Not knocking the age, just how they are technically/mentally.
