How to get a teen to join in!
Hi there
We (myself, hubby and 10 year old son) moved from the Uk in Nov 2008, leaving behind our 19 year old son as he decided that he wanted to stay with his girlfriend rather than follow our dream! Anyway as predicted the relationship went pearshaped and he arrived here a couple of weeks ago. Other than go places with us he doesnt seem inclined to get out and meet people. I know it is hard for him and he has been applying for jobs, taken up skateboarding again and is waiting for the local football and american football teams to start the training season BUT has anyone any advice or even same aged (19, 20ish) kids in the area who could contact us and arrange to show him round a bit, PLEASE anything to get him off the XBOX and out of the house!!
Thanks for any advise/help
Gill

Give him a bit of time to adjust both to the breakup and the new life. The more you push, the more he will dig his heels in.

Have you looked on the teenage section of this forum?
There's lots of teens on there who may also need some mates.
Worth a try

If you click the underlined 'Forum' bit at the top of the page, it'll take you to the full list of forums - the teen bit is called The Youth Club and is down towards the bottom in the General section

Arriving at this time of year makes it hard to get out & meet people because everything shuts down. Give him time & some space, it's early days.
Could he look for a part-time job maybe?

I too say give him more time. With him not being in work, and not knowing anyone it is going to be fairly hard to make new mates. Not impossible though?Maybe a course at TAFE?Some sport type club?I think personally he'll soon get bored and want to make some friends so its only a matter of time!
