It's my fault. I brought them in my suitcase.

It's funny the number of people who seem to imply that because they're European wasps, we must have brought them in. :D

I never eat outside, do not like sharing my meals with flies either.

I have a plan . Really can someone explain why this won't work:

I hang up 2 fly traps around our patio, they are basically jars filled with fly attractant that they get in to and can't get out. Currently the 2 I have are filled with about 1000 dead flies.

Now if everyone did that, in a square mile you would have 10 million dead flies. Each female fly can produce 3000 flies in its life, so by killing 10 million flies you'd have killed off 30 billion potential flies.

Why is this not on the government agenda! Hey K rudd wake up!

I cant believe that a couple of spiders hitched a ride in my washing - although my doctor couldnt believe I left my washing out and didnt shake it.

We can compare hot and swollen parts together.

Ouch, sorry to hear that - our next door neighbour ended up having to have skin grafts after her white tailed spider bite, I cant imagine having them on my boobs, that must be hell!

I thought of this thread this afternoon while i was reading yesterdays news of the world - one of those catalogue jobbies fell out and on the front cover was several different sized fly curtains ... ''for house, caravan or tent - these high quality fly curtains will keep the smallest of flies out!'' - £39.99 for the biggest size, would fit along a double set of patio doors :lol:

And the following year we'll be wondering where all the flowers have gone.

Don't know, you must live in the wrong place because we have been outside nearly all weekend here in Perth and not one fly on our food.

Doctor said I have been very lucky infection wise, the one on my boob was a couple of inches in circumference, doctor drew a line around it in biro and said if the redness exceeds the biro line then I have to start the tablets.

The same went for the bite on my thigh and the one on my stomach. My thigh one is looking dodgy and looks as though its getting better but then the skin starts peeling from around it.

Doc reckons the antibiotics make you quite sick so has been keeping an eye on the bites. My glands were swollen, I was aching all over, felt quite sick and had a bad headache for a bit. In fact my glands are still up but the redness has gone down.

Its been about 3 weeks now and the one on my leg is causing the most concern. I just cant believe I was bitten so many times, serves me right for not shaking my washing after its been outside.:o

And I found another white tail the other night in the front room, the house has been sprayed on the perimeter outside, we never had this problem last year so god knows where they are coming from.

Lolly got hers on the trampoline we think, she didn't actually feel the bite. I took her to the out of hours GP yesterday but he said that generally antibiotics don't help because at this stage the bite isn't infected, just clear fluid in the blisters which indicates no bacterial infection is present. Told me to keep it clean with salt water and bettadine.

Sam have you tried the 'bombs' that you do yourself? We do the whole house and loft space every few months as we had loads of white tails and redbacks up there. You can buy them in Woolies and you need to activate them and leave the house, along with your pets for a couple of hours - give them a try!

Mine were hot and red, the redness got to quite a size, but never exceeded the line. I still dont feel right though :(

I bombed the bedroom about 4 months ago, so I suspect I need to do it again.:(

You're confusing flies with Bees.

Flies vomit on your food and digest it, bees take pollen and pollenate other trees/flowers/plants.

One (flies) are just annoying, the other (Bees) have a useful purpose.

Must be a state thing because I left South Australia over 10 years ago and we were bombarded with bloody wasps!Dangerous too,I remember the media back then advising to always drink from cans with a straw, and my girls school, all the kids had to eat their food inside in summer due to the wasps being so prevalent.

Well I had a look and it seems that European wasps are only established in Tas and SE Australia....plus they have recently been discovered in Perth.

In Qld I only ever saw the paper wasps - people used to complain about them but they seemed to just float about minding their own business unless provoked.
