Tell me - how do you take advantage of this 'outdoor lifestyle' - keep trying to sit in the garden with a drink or have a meal and immediately you have a million flies swarming everywhere - how do you do it? Is there anything you can buy to stop them??? Just end up going back inside - defeats the object really!!!

Hi
We enclosed our patio so its 99.9% fly and mossie free, its great to be able to eat outside without flies landing on you or the food, lol. It also gives the kids an extra room to play in when its a wet day.

Where do you live?
Some people fill empty jars with sugar and water and place them away from the eating area and flies go in to drink and drown
Not sure there is much else you can do except buy flytraps..ewweee

We didn't have any problems with flies in our little part of Qld - there are more where we are now in NSW, but nothing like described by the OP.
Mozzies now... that's a different matter, but I think I attract them wherever I go.

Never heard of 'The great Ozzie wave' then ?
Never wondered why you see cartoon stereotypes of Aussie blokes with corks on strings around the brim of their hat ??
Are you seriously suggesting that the fact that Australia has flies in summer is some sort of closely guarded secret ???

I live in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. I sit outside with my OH, under our veranda, every night from around 5.45pm (when I get home from work) till whenever we finish the bottle of wine. We do this year round, rain or shine. We are NEVER bothered by flies. Can't remember the last time I saw a mozzie.
However we did live in Canberra for a couple of years in the 80's so I know how you feel. We couldn't ever eat or drink outside for the flies.
It's totally dependent on where you are.
