How clean is your house and does it really matter?
#1
My house could really do with a good sping clean from Kim and Aggie from the TV programme "How Clean is your House".
I never in a million years thought my house could look so bad. But I'm a mom, wife, employee (cleaner/aged carer), mom's taxi, helper on roster on school, household cook, manager of son's auskick team, member of P&C, class representative.
I have warned that I will not vacuum until I can see the carpet. I won't tell you how many weeks have passed by.
Is it my job too to pick up after everyone?
How much mess does it take for people to clean up after themselves?
I'm a reformed obsessive compulsive cleaner.

Our house used to be very tidy but then the twins came along and it became a tip!

I prefer a clean house. I will be shocked if someone ever complaints "your house is too clean"

How clean is my house? Not very
Does it really matter? Not really.
I work 9 hour days and commute an hour each way, totalling 11 hour days. I come home to do the cooking for 2 teenage children and a husband. And I have outside interests. Housework? Who really gives a shit?

Oz house is a lot bigger than the UK one so it takes more junk before it looks untidy.

I'm a self confessed cleanaholic - i don't mind the house being untidy (we have 3 kids) but the house has to be clean or I just can't live in it.

I work 11 hours a day (travel time included). 3 teenage boys and OH. Thank god for wooden floors. I sweep once a week or if the kids have made a mess around the kitchen/dinning table. Other than that, so long as the bathrooms are clean, I can't be bothered. I want to enjoy my weekends in the sun not cleaning.
I don't believe in putting everything away as soon as you have used it and I don't expect the house to look like a real estate advert - lounge suite, TV and that's it. We have books lying around, toys etc but it's keeping on top of it we try to do.
I like a bit of order - and a reasonable kitchen.
I commute too, but still would start tidying the kitchen when I get home, cos if I don't do it then, it will only get worse.

I actually keep this house a hell of a lot tidier than my much smaller house in Glasgow - think that has a lot to do with the fact i no longer work!!
I have a 2 year old, an 11 year old and a VERY messy husband - i feel that i am constantly cleaning and tidying, just to keep myself sane - i hate if i'm stuck in it all day and it's a mess!

Mine is spotless - can't bear a dirty or untidy house. I couldn't sleep in a messy bedroom or sit in an untidy lounge. I clean my toilets and bathroom every other day and do the kitchen inc the floor daily. Once in a routine it doesn't take long. If the 'boy' doesn't pick up his stuff then I put it in a plastic bag in the garage.
Lived in a dirty and untidy house as a kid and hated it and vowed that I would never live like that and never have.
PS When I worked fulltime in the UK, and they were 12 hour days, I still kept my place clean and tidy myself but also had a cleaner for 3 hours once a week.

Ours is lived in. It's not dirty but we're not obsessive about putting everything away. When I go to someone's house and it's like a show-home I'm sorry to say I immediately form a negative opinion of the home owner.

Thats what she???? says about us.
