Sorry can't help but I was just passing by & had to ask, why do you have to go to Oz to validate your visa? We are only just considering applying at the moment & didn't realise you had to pop over first.

So why are you going to Oz? I originally came from Dagenham ( I know lovely place) many years ago. Now live in Berkshire but family still in Daggers. How long did it take you to get the visa & what type was it?

I have been reading on this site all the reasons people don't like Oz, kind of worrying, need to read some more positive comments!

your visa has a validation date usually 12 months form the date of your medicals or police checks which ever was the earliest
so you have to have moved out within that time or validated the visa by visiting oz

you dont have to visit, once you have your visa you can just go, but
once you are granted your visa you have to make initial entry a year after your police checks or medicals (whichever is first) you dont have to vist but we havent sold our house yet and we have to make our initial entry before nov so not sure if we can sell house before then!!! just making plans to visit if we cant sell up and sod off!!!
took us about 7 months to get visa from application to grant, but had to do tra first so whole process took just over a year, had complications but also had a good agent, without whom we would never had visa grant. have you started you application yet??? we went on a 175 skilled visa, im a hairdresser.
we have friends in adelaide who have been there a year and they love it!! we are gonna stay with them to begin with.
are you going for a skilled visa???

Hi Steve and Tina

We did a validation trip in Feb and stayed in Diamond Sands Apartments, Mermaid Beach (booked on internet). great value and lovely pool that opens til 10pm at night. Stairs on the way up to apartments look quite shabby so was a bit up off when we arrived but once inside the apartment it was lovely, spacious , clean and with great facilities for cooking, eating in etc., we went with 3 kids so didn't want to eat out every night. Apartments have balconies off living area with table and chairs big enough for 6 to eat. Would advise not ground floor apartments though as I am always scared of easy access in and out by undesirables. Enjoy your trip! Marie

Well worth a look, however, rates will vary depending on when you are coming over. Word of advice, try to arrange trip outside of Oct-Dec as you have Indy, Schoolies and Christmas, when rates are at a premium and accommodation maybe scarce. Try this site as it is probably the most comprehensive www.GoldCoastInformation.com.au .

Thanks for advice guys. Hope we won't need to validate if the house sale goes through but as we have been let down twice already we are making a plan B

Trust us to have to go at the dearest time Oct/ Nov But at least the place you have given have been a good price, when you think the lovely holiday places in Brisband for the same price as a caravan in Clacton

We stayed at Diamond Sands as well. Nice complex and spacious - we have 3 kids. Also stayed in Le Grande in Broadbeach nice apartments and also able to walk to restaurants etc. Both really nice!!
