holiday accommodation in Canberra
#1
I have been trying for ages to book somewhere to stay in Canberra Jan 23-26 3 nights & am amazed that the whole place seems full.
I quess I assumed that as parliament isn't sitting & it's not my idea of the centre of the entertainment universe that it would be easy to get something booked.
I need family of 5 accommodated in 4 beds (yes I like to sleep with my OH) hotels are charging $160pn on Jan 22 & then (I can hardly believe it>>>)$1000 per night from the Friday 23rd....????
We cannot afford that kind of money?
Anyone got any fav places they stay they could recommend?
I've looked up caravan sites, stayz.com, hotels, motels, holiday lets, estate agents.....yes you'd think I could find something right??? Well if I paid $500pn maybe but $250 is more like what I can afford..
Anyone??

Have you tried Wotif?
For the "resort" type appeal, Eaglehawk would be your best bet but I am not necessarily advocating that - it's out of town about 10km. It's Australia Day long weekend so that is why it is all booked out I suspect - there is also a big triathlon which would also add to the crowds. Unfortunately, it isnt easy to get accommodation for a family of 5. If totally desperate you could try the extraordinarily cheap Formule 1 and get a couple of adjacent rooms - bare bones stuff though, no fridge or phone.
Edited to say, Clifton Suites on Northborne look like they could be OK - top of your price range though and dont be misled, Canberra is a seething hive of activity most of the time - the pollies actually contribute very little to the hotel trade!

Normally we would have a granny flat free but that's taken at the mo too!
Did you try Clifton Suites - they had something when I checked. Their 2 bed ensuite sleeps 5 apparently. http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hote...1&viewType=all
Golden Age in Qbn also looks to have something - family room http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hote...1&viewType=all or the Spa room here http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hote...1&viewType=all probably not the Hyatt but better than Sas' lawn!
I havent got a lawn unfortunately - too much vegie garden
