Hi Gill, I'm in Glasgow and this time of year is the worst I know - the winter months just seem to have gone on forever, by Feb a person can get quite desperate, and knowing that the summer might not be up to much just doesn't help when everything is always so GREY. February in Scotland can be such a desperate downer month and I'm sure most people living here must have SAD to some degree on account of the months and months of short days and grey skies etc. You might want to delay making big decisions until the days get longer and things lighten up a bit at least relative temperature-wise, it can make things look a lot different.
Not any other advice to offer, just showing solidarity regards the weather in this beautiful but mostly cold and wet country
Moving to Australia is a very personal issue & only you can say what is best for yourself and your family, and you will always find someone who agrees with your thought process and there will always be someone who doesn't. I wish you best of luck, whatever you decide.

Sometimes it can be about the adventure - taking that good (but predictable) life and doing something different. I know thats how we felt when we started our migration journey. Changing the predictable , giving it a shot and lifes too short for what ifs - reasons we had!!!!!

Having said that we don't have any kids and I'd imagine people who do have such responsibilities have a much tougher time taking risks when they have a family to support - I know it would make me a bit more wary. Also if people are not quite on the same page as their partner is regarding emigration I guess it must be difficult. Plus if you are leaving close family behind. On last 2 points we have no issues personally so it's very easy to leave, but I'm sure the leaving part is harder for some than it is for others, never mind the actual getting there and settling in.
Lovely to hear your adventure worked out and you are happy in your new life
