Having two children who went to private school only the building fund is tax deductible.

Hiya,

How many days/hours at kindy is that, even at $3000 it seems cheap?

Different things in Different States.

Kindy in NSW is the same as Prep school in QLD, ie: The full year before year 1, except it is compulsory in NSW, but voluntary in QLD. (I think I am up to date on that) ;)

NSW pre school is the same as QLD Kindy.

In QLD, the building fund is no longer tax deductible for us. It was until 2006/2007 I think, but changed recently.

Tax office rules may have changed this: ATO

However, everyone in Australia, on FTB A, now gets the new Education Tax Rebate from the 2008/2009 tax return, so keep your receipts from July 2008.
School fees are NOT included in this.

I think the international school fees in wa are cheaper than a lot of other states.
She will be going to kindy 2 full days a week which will be 8.30am - 2.35pm.
Last year it was only $2250 and gone up to $3000!
My sons fees are noe $5600 form just 5 grand and at the minute the only go up again when hes in high school, but i'd like to think we could have our residancy by then! :)

So if we can't claim the school fees on the Education Tax Refund what can we claim it sounds a bit Irish?

They are new this year as you couldn't claim them last year and really it's the school fees tax break you want but better than nothing.

St Mary's Star of the Sea is the school and yes more expensive compared to the co-ed catholic school in the other direction... but I'm happy with it and it was my old school - in the old days i think my mum paid around $300 per term or something silly - how times have changed but then facilities are second to none so can't complain... just hope they dont increase too much!

Thanks for the tax info - i wasnt sure if you would just get the tax back paid or if you got the lot back (50%). I also think you can carry over any unused portion over to put towards next years ed tax relief... What i might do is buy a new computer at some stage just before i do tax.

I would have been extremely happy if it was only $300 per term! Try trebling that amount and you may be nearer the mark.

Haven't had next years bill yet but think they were giving more payment options which will be nice if it's gone up.
