It was late February 08 when the suggestion was first made that i could go and work in Oz.
Im now 4 weeks from leaving!!!
My flat is rented, car sold, job sorted, visa sorted, passport renewed, shipping all my stuff this week, inland revenue almost happy, tv licence refund about to be sent, money sorted and nothing more i can think of
Someone told me one of the banks has a debit card you can use abroad for free, nationwide i think? So im thinking of transferring funds into such an account, just enough to set me up for the first 6 weeks - good idea?
Anything else I need to do? Its all happened sooo quick, one of the perks of being single I guess, but its a bit stressful doing it all on your own!!

And I got mine in a week. Different visas take different times. Don't knock a guy for being able to get his quicker than others, just be pleased for him.
OP, as suggested check out the sticky thread at the top of the page. Loads of useful stuff in there.

Lazerzxr, if you've got someone in the UK who can look after any post you get after you've left then there's not much that can't be done even after you've moved if you forget something. OH's mum and dad get all our post forwarded, there's not much but there were a few bits we forgot to cancel that are all done now.
You've covered the big stuff and sound like you have a good head on your shoulders so just start enjoying the ride!
Good luck with it

Nicely said, I'm sure the OP wasn't for a second trying to rub anyone's nose in this, just excited about the adventure

We worked it out that we were quids in on postage with having all mail redirected by the Post Office in the UK.

Not sure why you get someone else to forward your mail unless it is to sort out the rubbish first. We have always had our mail redirected by the Post Office and it arrives in double quick time. You just pay a 3, 6 or 12 month fee which you can renew. It then doesn't cause others problems with having to mail it and pay for it and saves time.

I guess the point is, there's not much you couldn't do from here if you had to so it's not the end of the world if you do forget to do something before you leave.

Hey, I do wish you all the best!
I already admitted in my first post that I was a little jealous, thats all.
Let's face it this is not an easy time for a lot of us & I was just makin a point.
To the OP, I am really pleased for you & wish you all the best for your future down under
Congrats

OP i'm so sorry if it sounded like i was skitting you, i really wasn't, i think i'd be a total wreck if i had got mine through that quick. I'm so very very pleased for you and i'm so sorry if it sounded any other way, it so wasn't intentional. Good luck with everything

Obviously, everybody on BE is totally honest but, if you are leaving anything behind that you don't want to follow you (if you get my drift..........), don't get the post office to redirect your mail to your new address. Certain agencies are able to get the info from them and find you

Nationwide flexaccount toes not charge for withdrawls in Australia and I found mine very handy, missus was with barclays an well miffed at getting a £60 bill.
I am intending to use the nationwide account for a little while when we arrive, thanks James.
