Definition of wisdom.....
"The quality of being wise is the knowledge and the capacity to make due use of it; knowledge of the best ends and the best means; discernment and judgment; discretion; sagacity; skill; dexterity". http://www.webster-dictionary.net/definition/Wisdom Knowledge and wisdom, far from being one, Have ofttimes no connection. Knowledge dwells In heads replete with thoughts of other men; Wisdom, in minds attentive to their own. Knowledge, a rude, unprofitable mass, The mere materials with which wisdom builds, Till smoothed, and squared, and fitted to its place, Does but encumber whom it seems to enrich. Knowledge is proud that he has learned so much; Wisdom is humble that he knows no more. An excellent university course can teach someone how to take emotions out of a situation, how not to judge and make a decision until weighing up all the hard facts and pros and cons. It can be the foundation from which wisdom begins.... Knowledge is gained by the experience of the real world, to test those learned foundations and add to the wisdom gained by constant questioning, assessing, evaluating. Whilst sitting at my ex in-laws house, the cat started licking it's genitalia. 'Wish I could do that' I said, then quick as a flash my wife replied 'if you ask nicely, I am sure he will let you'. That level of quick thinking always impresses. |

Not sure if knowledge and wisdom are mutually exclusive, perhaps more interwoven than having no connection. Would it not take some level of wisdom to be able to gain relevant knowledge? Could you be wise without any knowledge? And where does intelligence fit into the mix - perhaps it is the successful summation of wisdom and knowledge?
