Oh Bugger - I'd forgotten about this! 
Erm, a comedy from the 80's (I think) featuring a club for divorced and separated people called the 1-2-1 club.

my first post - woohoo
I think this is 'Dear John'
I was young but I can't get that theme tune out my head - Dear John, by the time you read this I'll be gone. God my parent smade me watch this every week.
Can't remember the actor who played John - died of Heart Attack not long after makign series if my memory serves me right

Well done!!!
It was Ralph Bates that played John and he did die not long after the series was aired.
