Going back to the original post, I'm afraid I have to agree with most of the replies on here. Bella71 lists lots of reasons why the UK is going downhill, and these appear to be the main reasons why she wants to move to Perth.

Problem is, Perth (or anywhere else in Oz) is not some kind of perfect utopia. It also has crime, building and "nasty immigrants" too. It might not be on the same scale as the UK, but it is there.

Bella71 - If you are serious about moving over here, I'd suggest at least a holiday/ reconnaissance trip first, before thinking about visas etc. Then do a tonne of research. Then another tonne. Moving back home to the UK after a year or so seems to be pretty common. Main reasons they give are 1)missing family & friends 2) bored 3) work/pay.

I watched episodes 1&2 of "wanted down under" this morning..... I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that many of those who have moved to Oz & then returned home, were tempted a little by the Oz they saw on offer on this show.

Slightly off-topic....but I do find it amusing that someone would criticise immigrants (illegal or otherwise) who have moved to the UK for a better lifestyle, and then want to move elsewhere for exactly the same reason....:D

True, those type of reason get right up my (where the sun don't shine)

Makes me wonder how the Media in UK is portraying Perth:sneaky:

I don’t think the UK media portrays Perth any way, if you look at the online papers and the BBC Australia hardly gets a mention let alone Perth.

Programs like Wanted Down Under give people a snap shot look at life in OZ, it’s a bit like watching a holiday program, they can make the Costa Del Sol look inviting! – but its not everyone’s cup of tea.

It all comes down to research, research and more research and even then there are no guarantees

I'm afraid in my time here the "fair go" comes under myths. As does the friendly bit. Don't quote me on this but I think it was Perth who used to bombard you on the radio, TV and the papers about how friendly they are. Each to there own experience though.

I find it depends on how you react to the initial contact, especially in a pub type environment... For me, "Hello it's a pommy bastard" means "hello mate", then the banter happens.. then the openness starts. You should see how Vics get greeted in outback WA + QLD, they still get along after the initial "fencing".... 27 years here has taught me a lot. Most times you dont have to go through that, but underneath it, is real open friendliness I've found.

Beats being totally ignored, which is 90 pct of the UK experience in the same kind of environment.

Hmm, sounds just like the knob who booked me for jaywalking in CBD.

Must be a prerequisite in joining Qld Police. I hear it takes an awful lot of coffee and donuts to sustain your crime fighting abilities while sitting behind bushes waiting for someone to jaywalk/speed ;)

Funny that, we've been here around the same amount of years. I've worked in the bush/mines etc. Lived in a number of states. My UK experiences are much different to yours, dont get me wrong I have a few ozzy mates but I definitely dont find Australians particularly friendlier than people from other places I've travelled. Just out of curiosity, where in England did you get the ignored experience?

Bl**dy police officers. The other week I caught them using some kind of pincer formation to catch one poor bloke. All very childish.
