Hi,
I intend to move to Townsville, and I am trying to figure out what GPS software would be the best to use it with my Google Nexus 3 smartphone (until I learn the streets by heart I mean)
Also, if I would use Google maps with A-GPS, how expensive should I expect it to be?
I must specify that I will be using only in town for finding streets and stuff, so that I don't intend to use it (at least in the beginning) in the bush
Thx

Re: expense of using it with google maps, the cost is minimal. Plus, the latest version of google maps will allow you to cache all the streets around Townsville... effectively this means you only need to download the data once.
In answer to your question, I think that the google software is the best.
If you're really going into the "bush" - there are plenty of safety precautions you'll need to be aware of, including, having a proper GPS unit.
For your next phone, consider getting one that can recognise GLONASS as well as A-GPS. That's the Russian gps system. I've got a Galaxy Note which can use both systems, and it takes approx 5 seconds to pick up the location of the phone.

You could take a look at "Waze". It remembers where you go, you earn 'points' for driving around and reporting problems that other Waze users can be alerted to. Its kinda find and a bit different but the maps are not as good as Google (though you can earn extra points by paving in missing roads). Better suited for cities more traffic-intensive countries really. I am still in the habit of putting it on in the car though (secured in a holder, of course...!) as I am still a little bit of a saddo and like to see the pacman-type-character munch roads I haven't driven down before....
So anyway, yes, Google. Perhaps try adding a data counter widget to your home screen then you can keep a close eye on data usage. I personally use one called 3G watchdog - free in the google marketplace, or rather google play as it is now known. You can tell the widget what your allowance is, the expiry date, and it can stop data usage when it hits a defined level to stop you incurring horrible extra charges. Just a handy widget to have in general.

OK, it is possible to source "iGo" for Android. The problem is, it's quite difficult to find, since the only versions available are 'ripped off'. It is, however, a full and complete car navigation system with the ability to use up to date mapping, and no data charges.
If you know where to look, and can deal with the shady nature, maybe you can hire the iGo team...

I think you can download it for free with Au and NZ maps.
