We did the same and moved out to Bedfordshire and bought a 3 bed detached house for less than we sold that pokey flat for.

We lived in Flitwick for 4 years and I have to say enjoyed it. It had good facilities and was close to Bedford and Milton Keynes for shopping. Direct train into London was useful for me as I commuted and the M1 was close by for road links. Wasn't a bad place as it goes but we are talking 10 years since I left there so not sure what it is like now.

That is exactly what husband said, we had forgotten just how small it was. It was only the 2 of us back then so it was perfect really but one hell of a markup in price. It was considered expensive then too as it was a brand new build.

Crikey I can't believe how much that has jumped up in only 17 years!

I know Flitwick, we had friends who got married the week before us and bought a house up there. Spent many a w/e helping them paint and decorate their home.

It's alot isn't it, even after the big rise in 98' and since then. It'll be interesting to see if it sells for that and how long it's on the market for.

Thats a pretty outrageous generalization Badge! So... what? Everyone who lives in the burbs are "dumb kids" and those that live on acerage are bright eyed and bushy tailed? PMSL Have you been to Cockatoo and seen the Boguns?

Wait till your girls hit the surly teen phase and you as parents get the "blame" Or let me guess, they have there name down at BH already and thats going to turn them into little golden children? There was a group of them In Berwick the other day causing a real disturbance and were asked to leave the front of Richies..Never?! Yes, really...

I totally hope my kids DO get saturday jobs and learn to wait for next weeks pay check, you can't do better than learn about life IMHO.

Renth...re the education. Primary seems slower, but after all it is primary and I agree with kids being kids for longer and learning social skills etc. Once they can read and write they have the tools for secondary, but if they arrive more socially rounded they seem to do much better...I think people get wayyy to uptight about kids being rocket scientists at age 8 or whatever..

I so wish you luck with whatever you decide and wherever your life takes you all...

(oh FWIW hubbys old job was just under 40k in Watford and we lived and hour and 10 mins commute north and we did ok, but just ok. Mortgages ave gone up very much though obviously since then...)

I would love a pound for every time I've heard "this country has gone to the dogs" since the 70's, I would be a multi millionaire by now. So because you hate the place, we all do right? Wrong! I have a large family and they all love it, even my Spanish sister in law chooses to live in England. Oh, and I do hope for your sake you aren't thinking of coming to Oz, 'cos you aren't going to like paying the taxes, we have illegal immigrants and the crime rate all over Oz is rising.:)

If I had a pound for every time I heard someone say, "If I had a pound for every time I heard..." I'd have quite a few pounds. :D
