Good areas to buy a family home in Melbourne?
Hi
Can anyone please give me some tips re: good areas to raise a family in Melbourne / affordable areas to buy?
I know house prices in Melbourne have gone through the roof and there aren't any signs of it dropping so far but I need to start my research as we're planning on moving out there in 2010 with a toddler in tow!
Also, are there any areas which are near the beach and affordable? Or is this a silly question?!!
Thanks in advance

Hi,
It really depends on how long you are prepared to spend on your commute to work. IMO to be anywhere near a beach and spend less than say $500k you're going to need to commute for between 1 - 2 hours each way if you're going to work in the city. Personally I'd settle in a decent suburb inland and head to the beach on the weekends.

you can get a place near the beach in Altona for around 500k....and certainly a lot less than 1-2 hours commute to CBD. I think the train is about 30mins
