So what does everyone think. All 3 of you:lol: ( BE so quiet these days ! )

I think Obama waffled on a bit too long and I hate speeches where bits of it are so obvioulsy the aide having been on goodle putting in 'snappy facts on 'straia and shoving it in the speech.

Naval ship and helicopters been going over the sunshine coast even. Middle of the night, loud, seems a bit of overkill, really.

G20 is interesting in that its not something that people seem to pay a lot of attention to ( unless its in your city and you cant help notice it ) . Not sure if it will give Brisbane the global notoriety some politicians seem convinced it will?

I think in 43 degree heat it's a good idea to be well away from the gathering of reptilian shape-shifters and close to a pool and a beer.

Why did President Putin feel the need to bring four warships along?

We all know what Russia is capable of, no need to bloody show off!

It went well, although parts of it looked like it was some boys weekend out, a very expensive luxury one at that. The old oxford chums club was a bit obvious.

Most annoying thing is straight after we had to hear, "Brisbane shows the world how to do it' yawn....

For once it would be nice if australia did something with quiet understated dignity, instead of look at moiii waaaa

And no I dont know why Putin brought his toys, apparently its a bit of a habit though.

Obama's hardware is impressive:blink:, I bet not so to the average American on $8 an hour, having to fund that lot being flown round the world each time, some countries go to war with less metal than that.

Because he is still, at heart, a scared little boy with a sub-standard penis and a political ideology that is f'ked who rules by fear rather than by trust?

And man boobs. Much military hardware needed to compensate for those fun pillows. ;)

We haven't really seen much of it here to be honest, Putin going home early and a few soundbites from Cameron but apart from that nothing really. Not sure how it will put Brisbane on the global map.

We were watching BBC News 24 on the TV at work overnight, and they actually said "At the G20 Summit taking place in Canberra....."

It wont, I mean really did anyone watch the G20 when it was in Petersberg, Toronto..... of course not, only if you live there.

Newman and abbott seem to have missed that point. Is Australia going to give us wall to wall coverage when its in Paris next year? yeah right.

Only spin off I think is the Brisbane property market will go even more frantic than it is now. Already half the buyers seem to be from Syd and Melbourne, Brisbane holding the G20 isnt exactly going to hurt its reputation with investors.

I thought it was funny, what with all Abbott's "shirtfronting" comments, that it was him that was told off and told to do better - like a naughty schoolboy.

For all his trying to take climate change off the agenda and deny reality; he was TOLD that it would be discussed, and TOLD that it was in the final communique.

Less shirtfront, more bitchslap. :hand:

I can't see how a property market would get a spin off from a G20. I can't speak for those in Melb but you would be mad to invest in Sydney right now. The investors are looking for other places with negative gearing options.

His banging on about the GP tax (co-payment) to 19 of the world most powerful people was ridiculous. The tangible look of perplexment on Angela Merkel's face betrayed it all.

Re: G20

I'd be interested to know how much was spent on doing up Brisbane international terminal - especially as the leaders flew in through the old terminal.
When I flew out in mid October all the bars and most of the shops in international departures were boarded up, only place to get a drink was the costa Coffee in Arrivals, and the whole place looked like a building site. Flew back in last Wednesday and everything was shiny and polished, everything open, all the staff smiling, immigration all being polite, extra e-gates installed and more staff than passengers, all trying to show us how it worked! New carpets, shiny barriers, Even the trolleys had been polished I reckon. New uniforms and shiny name badges.....must have cost a bomb.

I wonder when he's talking about direct action and MH17 to the next hospital he visits will he realise then he got his speeches mixed up. Or does he actually believe that the G20 leaders are just a bunch of old biddies who flew to Brisbane for gossip.

Yeah, they're doing it but at what cost to their taxpayers/electricity consumers (same thing to the left)? Their subsidies are off the scale, so much so that it could derail their economy

And as for China......

Remember, this isn't the first time he's stuck a partisan, local consumption message into the wrong circumstance:

Tony Abbott raises eyebrows after linking WWII D-Day memorial with policies on mining and carbon taxes

Don't think he really understands what is appropriate, plowing on with what's on his mind, rather than taking account of others PoV. Look that one up in your psychology text books.

I seriously don't think the unsubtle message he was being given actually went in. Some statesmen read the subtle nuance in the body language of others to understand and optimise interaction with peers. And then there's abbott ...

Speaking of elephants. Most of the G20 ponce around and congratulate eachother about carbon emissions but we don't hear any of them talking about the real elephant in the room: the population explosion

Re: G20

Now my take on the G20 is that I was heartily disappointed.

I went into the CBD on the Saturday, against all the advice. Parked in a central car park and spent my time looking for action. I wanted to see mounted cops charging teaming protesters, whilst they bayed for capitalist blood. Kettling protesters in the heat would take on a greater significance - just how hot would the kettle go? How many shopfronts would still be intact in the Queen Street mall?

As far as spectacle and bystander entertainment is concerned, there was more action in a wriggling goldfish gasping for air. The height of reaction - burning a flag

London puts on a far greater spectacle when it comes to riots.

Why do anything if it's all irrelevant? What Australia is doing now is more costly to the tax payer than the Carbon tax. And I'm talking money, not even cost to our environment.

But if we do anything about climate change, we accept it as an issue. Why only partially address the issue (at a higher financial cost) instead of being smart and making polluters responsible for their actions.

Exactly, deny anything is happening and there is no need to justify doing nothing.
