A very good question. If they discriminated against any of the trendy groups there would be hell to pay.

Being 36 makes you an "old fart"?

They probably figure that anyone over 35 that they might want in their lounges should already have access to the lounges due to FF status. If they don't already travel that much, they're not big earners for them.

(I've just lost my Gold status due to being unable to travel much last year with having to medicate a cat three times daily. Unfortunately I'm slightly outside their targeted age range.)

Likewise. I lost my gold too since I put more staff into Singapore and I don't need to go as much.

However it's our obligation to punish Qantas with such age discrimination.

Therefore I have been flying Virgin because the points to Gold come a lot quicker. I will be able to get Gold on Virgin without the need for 5 or 6 Singapore trips per year.

I had a UK trip booked in April to save mine but had to cancel at the last minute. TBH as I'm moving to the US in a couple of weeks' time, I need to work out which scheme is best for me going forward anyway. Mr K has been back and forth between Sydney and Seattle quite a few times since January so is definitely hanging onto his Platinum for at least another year.

Remember a few years ago Virgin matched our QF levels to entice us over? I think I flew them once, to Bali, and that was mainly because it got there earlier in the day than QF.
