Probably Christmas beetles.

We used to get them regularly around here just before Xmas - rarely get them nowadays.

Apparently, they are not always dead when they've dived and crashed to the floor lying on their backs...they just can't get back over onto their feet again. Poor little things!!
They need a little flick back over and then they'll fly straight into your face again!!!

christmas bugs I think are the things that are also attracted to white stuff. we get them on white roses in the garden and they also crap all over the washing but funnily enough not in the front.
May have something to dowith the back being full of greenery and the front being a bit empty and bare?

Take care with them, they are almost sacred here. If you are digging at the moment the short white grubs, about 1 cm turn into them. They have a similar life cycle to cicadas which are much deeper in the soil.

What are the smaller copper coloured insects with transparent wings that appear at about the same time? They get in the house at night then disintegrate and you have piles of wings to sweep up next day.

They're either ants or termites

emelems is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Flying beetle bugs thingys....what are they???!!!!

OMG! I thought our resident lizard was eating the bugs! I end up with tonnes of wings to hoover up... pretty sure that they are being eaten.. remember when I was in Thailand (the jungle) and the 2 small lizards in our room used to eat everything and leave a pile of wings..

Re the beetles, me and the OH thought we were a bit odd in attracting so many kamakazee beetles!! Never realised that they were obviously attracted to something that is on our verandah?!

EM x

Because they are a welcome sign of summer and look nice buzzing around the windows. They are quite harmless, most people just put them outside like they would with ladybirds.
