Floorboards or carpets, carpets or floorboards???

Looking at the web site of the "experts in Bamboo flooring" who call bamboo and "extremely stable hardwood".
So much for experts, bamboo isn't a hardwood, it's a grass.
Trying to get a price on the flooring only sans labour. About $60 sound right?

We've just paid $60 p/m for solid bamboo. Strangely it was cheaper than the Laminate Bamboo which I don't get as the quality and durability in the solid is far better. Hubby has just finished Tiddler's room and it looks fantastic. First born's room is next and then the living room/lounge/whatever you want to call it. Looking at about $5 grand all up. The guy in the shop reckoned to have it done professionally (yeah right) would be the same again.

Depends on the grade. It comes in varying grades of compression. The more compressed the higher the quality. $60 for top quality would be good.

Carpets in bedrooms; floorboards in lounge, hallway and dining room; tiles in bathroom, toilet, laundry and kitchen.

As long as there is not that fuggy stench when you go into a house with carpets which is centrally heated to the nth degree. I have memories as a child of going to some of my mates houses and the smell hit you when you walked in.

Depends on the house but if you've got a hallway with a front door at one end you want it to run from door to hall end and that dictates the rest of the house I guess.
I hate carpet in anything but bedrooms tbh and the worstest crime is to have it in bathrooms- eugh!

Floorboards all the way, especially if you have pets. Or allergies.
Bamboo is very eco-friendly; go for it, Burby.

It's another few months of saving up. I'm considering the vinyl planks for the bedrooms, dark stained bamboo for the living room and a stone tile for the kitchen. But kitchen and bathroom need a full renovation before I sell this place so they can wait.

Are we talking polished hard wood floors? Because if you are doing them in the hall is a terrible plan, unless everyone takes their shoes off, including your two big dogs
In our old house we had polished Tazzie oak, looked stunning for about 8 months, after 3 years it looked shocking! We bunged decent quality textured laminate over it, it was way warmer and looked ok to. Soft wood floors look horrible and mark even easier.
In this house we have tiles in the hall, dining, bathrooms and laundry. Laminate floor in the family room and carpets in the bedrooms. I am happy with all of it and the way it works. Oh except maybe the kids sittig room, may put laminate down there too, as its pale green plan carpet at the moment

I walked into a flooring shop intending to buy wood for the house we were building. Ended up getting a really good laminate as it looked better. The fact that it was more hard wearing and cheaper is a bonus. We have it throughout the house except for bathrooms and laundry and it looks great, so much so that .......(look around to make sure no-one's listening)....I actually enjoyed cleaning the floor of all the building crap.
Intending to buy some cheap rugs for the winter. Would prefer to buy nice rugs but with cats and kid and husband not wise.
