1) The federation should be dissolved and each state look after its budget. In which case you can also argue that the mining areas of, say, WA should split from places like Perth and take the mining proceeds to build themselves up. And so on. 2) The federal system should disappear and the country be treated as one entity with common laws and budgets. With modern communications I think that's the logical way to go. |

Getting rid of the state governments would make my day.

What would you hope would be the main benefits ? Mine would be major national Water infrastructure projects..... Green inland Australia... Apparently the world needs more food, and Australia needs water in the right place to unlock vast swathes of land. A national one Gauge railway network. |
Re: Flood Levy
There would have to be at least some sort Executive body in each state as each state is different with differing priorities. We certainly don't need full blown state gorvernments.

No...ooo they get more than/ less than us.....blah blah...just the same would be nice. Think of the money saved  |

Agreed! I would just like each state to have the same funding for each thing. We all differ in health, education stamp duties etc its just a minefield!

Re: Flood Levy
Common regulation. The savings for business would be enormous and increase competition by making interstate expansion easier. Productivity in Australia has been going down and this would be one big boost to Australia.

Apparently the world needs more food, and Australia needs water in the right place to unlock vast swathes of land. A national one Gauge railway network. There is a rail line from Adelaide to Darwin. A water pipleline alongside it would be expensive but, there is sufficient earth curvature for the water to flow south. That would be start. I'm told that there is sufficient rainfall in Australia to meet the country's needs and some. Trouble is, the catchments don't relate to the rainfall areas. |
