Flash Floods
Hoping all BE members in the areas affected are safe and well. There are some horrendous films and reports around.

Re: Flash Floods
The "Flash floods" in the thread title is probably a misnomer for most of the areas affected. The far greater impact will be riverine flooding at 1-in-50-year or 1-in-100-year levels, depending on which river catchment area is involved.
If your property becomes inundated, you won't care which historical level you've matched, for rainfall or for flood peak. You'll be more concerned about the adequacy and details of your insurance cover.

Been there, done that, didn't have time to print a T-Shirt. (But it would have been something like "Mud Army, Brissie 2011".)

Just adding my 2c worth - hope every one is keeping safe and dry and not residing on a flood plain.

Re: Flash Floods
The rear of my property was designated a flood zone for a 1 in 100 year event 2 years ago by the local council. We have had 2, 1 in 100 year event since then and all water has drained off nicely. I am going to get a flood engineer to contest that with the council.

I feel for you guys. It doesn't matter what they call it or how often it is supposed to happen because when it happens to you it is devastating ! Stay safe, don't take unnecessary risks and make sure you keep your flood insurance policy dry

Re: Flash Floods
It's been non stop near torrential in Sydney today. Might be the final burst before it's finishes, which is forecast to clear tonight.

These 1 in 100 events are becoming common ...
Sandbagged and left for higher ground, house survived, just.
Time to look for house #2, up high.
