My favorite fish and chip shop in Oz has about 10 different types of fresh fish to choose from to have with chips .... customers can even go through the fish co-op, buy any fish they want want, and they'll cook it to order ... most at less expense than the prices on that site's menu ....

Yes for me it was the chips I missed, and it was great to have british style chips again.

I was very disappointed with the fish I got, it was plaice in breadcrumbs deepfried to death. I think if I got something out of a Birds Eye frozen fish box would have been nicer.

So the chips , thumbs up, fish, thumbs down, and price, thumbs way down.:(

I reckon the solution might be to order the fish from nearby fish and chips shop (fresh local fish), and the chips from the British chip shop. They're within 1 minute walk of each other anyway.

What put me off Fish n Chips in general were fat chips. If I wanted them I'd buy potatoes and do it myself!

The only chips I like are French Fries like you get on the continent, served with a steak. Bizarrely why I like Maccas!!

hmmmm... I lived in Brum for a long time... my expectations are probably way too high.. land of the Balti and all that.. perhaps I'll just stick to throwing another shrimp on the Barbie.. when in Rome and all that! ;) :p

The previous address for this Balti in Birkdale was actually: The Spice Avenue Balti Restaurant, 3 Cleveland Street, Wolverhampton, West Midlands.

It's only a change of address :D

Been once and as you say wouldn't drive there just for a meal. Plenty of good one's down here for us, but we're not Indian food snobs and as long as the meat is good and the spices good we're happy. Got a couple of chippies down here where they do proper chips and the fish is good. I think people put their rose tints on when remembering some food from the UK. We had a visit back and the brilliant two indians we had great memories of were decidedly just ok. Really excited to be getting the food and when we ate it, it was 'oh, is this it?, bugger let's get back to the good ones at home' :D

I agree, it sounds like Cleveland Point.
But down at our point is the rock n roll cafe that also sells Fish n Chips and has ice cream, but not sure I would call it an ice cream parlour. Unless it has changed recently. I'll have to drop down there and check it out.
