Fear of flying.

I was just replying to a post written by GeordieMandy about not being a good flyer, and I suddenly had a brainwave !!
Is there anybody out there that has emigrated (anywhere) that is paranoid about flying, and how did you get over it ? I have flown many many times in my life, and I am normally asleep before the plane leaves the tarmac, but what about everybody else.

You take off, you don't get so high, so you get turbulence. They run down the gangway with the trolleys to feed everybody, then its buckle up for landing. Oz is totally different. Up high, no probs when you are up there, and when you go to land, its all over before you can think about it.

drink lots of water and make sure you move around a bit to get your circulation going.
Did some searching and found these...............

hello
my first ever flight was to oz...and god was i scared...every bump, noise, etc was gripping the arms so tight lost all feeling in my arms..never slept a wink.
Ive done the trip three times now and have got lots better..once plane is up there im fine..unless we hit turbulance :scared: and im ok with the landings. but holy shit...i hate take off...i hyper ventilate, sweat, cry, pray...i close my eyes till the planes levelled out...then i feel better..hate to see the front of the plane at a different angle..
Have just returned from Canada so have had five take offs to contend with...on the one from Chicago to Toronto was a small plane...we took off i was in my usual position of head in hands, breathing deeply, etc...the noise of the carraige going up freaked me out...once we levelled out i felt ok..till the girl behind said....(referring to the engines) 'oh that dosnt sound right' :scared: :scared: :scared:
my travelling companion couldnt stop laughing she said my face was a picture...

I think I have a fobia of waiting for flights. I'm always nervous in the run up because it always on the horizon. Therfore I'm thinking about it way too much.
Spend more time thinking about it before hand than I actualy spend on the pane!
Soon as I get on the plane I forget all that, or it just turns to adrenalin, stick on some Tiesto and ride it through & I love it

Whats the phrase...
" I do not have a fear of flying - I have a fear of crashing"
I think most people would identify with that

I wouldn't say I have a fear of flying, it's the claustraphobic fear that once the planes in the air, I can't get off until it lands!
The worry about it makes me ill. Longest flight I had was to Florida, went with Virgin and it was fantastic.
Know I'll be in a state though when we come to fly to Oz, but hopefully the excitement will see me through!

I work in travel and am terrified of take off. I used to need Pampers. Ive done Virgin's Flying Without Fear course twice. (They let me back for free the second time as I refused to board a Miami flight because the plane looked knackered)
Now I just try and think rationally and concentrate on my breathing through take off. I just focus on the fact that 10 minutes after we lift the drinks cart will be round and I can get trollied and fall asleep!
I have this weird fascination with flying....a love hate relationship. My fear would never stop me travelling anymore, although I am VERY selective with what carriers I use and always research them here: www.airsafe.com

I'd still rather jump out of it though...it's more fun!
