If you were going to come up with a useful answer to this, you'd have to have someone encounter some famous individual, not knowing who they were, and with no clue (eg not looking like a movie star, etc.) and have them be able to say that 'X had presence' with no prompting.
Whilst some undeniably have a certain 'something', the vast majority has not appreciably out of the type you might meet any day (eg good salesmen usually have presence as well). Luck plays a large part in putting them where they are, and the skills they have that are recognised are often only within narrow bounds.
