My OH supports laptops and pc's and he tried everything. The laptop died on Saturday afternoon rather quickly over an hour or so, but had had intermittent problems for a few weeks before that. It wouldn't read the hard disc at all- couldn't even find it in the end. OH gave it the technical equivalent of CPR several times and in different ways but only got it started long enough to grab the photos off it, then it expired.

OH wanted a new one anyway.
