Default Exchanged contracts on house

Hi all

Well it finally happened and we have exchanged contracts on our house for a delayed completion on 6th August. We leave for Brisbane on 13th august

Thank God its finally been done so can now tell the packers a definite date and i can start to declutter and get rid of stuff!!! Still have to find somewhere to stay for a week before we go but at least its a load of our minds that we are now entered into a lawful contract.

Good luck to all others going through this process. It's nearly as stressful as waiting for the visa

Janet, Fantastic news.

Can I ask did you delay the completion date? I didn't realise this could be done!!

When you put the house up for sale, your solicitor will send you a bunch of forms to fill in. One of them, the "Seller's Property Information Form" has a question on whether you have any special requirements regarding your moving date. We put in there that we needed a minimum of four weeks between exchange of contract and completion.

That way you get enough time to give the shippers a definite date, book flights and accommodation at the other end etc etc.

Hi Ozzie Maz

When we showed people round the house who were serious about buying it we told them straight that we were going to Australia and as they were not in a chain they agreed to wait until August for the completion date. To be honest it was worth it as we get to stay in the house right up until a week before we leave for Oz. If they had not agreed on a delayed completion date we would have been looking at renting somewhere for a month or two before we go. That saved us money. There were other people who were interested in the house but were involved in chains so we did not go with them.

Good luck with your sale.

We are in the same boat. We had sold but the buyers pulled out so now back to square one. It's really getting me down now. We're considering a validation trip but expensive for the 5 of us and we have already been so don't really need to do a reckie. Also considering just going and leaving the house to sell or renting out instead of selling (don't really want to do the last option though). It is a nightmare.

Congrats to the op though. I can't wait to be in your position

Congratulations Janet! that must be a big weight off your mind!

We are hoping to exchange at the end of May with a completion date set for the end of July so the kids can finish school! We will then go down to Kent for a week and stay with my family and then fly out first week in August! Yee ha!

Dear Jackie

Where are you going to in Brisbane? We will be staying temporarily in an apartment in Newstead and then will be hoping to buy somewhere. You are a nurse aren't you? Are you starting work as soon as you arrive at The Mater Hospital? I am in the process of getting myself registered with Queensland and then hope to get some casual work within a few weeks but if it takes longer I am not too concerned Maybe we can meet up in Brisbane since we are going around the same time and will probably be going through the same range of emotions!!!

I know they have alot of meet ups in Brisbane so will definetely be going to those. My children's ages are Ellie who is 11, Sophie who is 16, Luke who is 18 and Ben who is 20. The 16 and 18 year old are doing GCSE's and A levels hence why we are going in August. Once the exams are over they want to spend time with their friends before we go.

Good luck with your house move.

Janet

Hi simba

You can say that again about relief!!! We sold the house within two weeks of it being on the market and it has taken until now to get to exchange!!!! we are fortunate that the people who are buying it are willing to wait until we go which is good as it means we dont have to pack up twice before we leave for Australia.

I see from your signature that you are Brisbane bound September. Where are you heading for? We are hoping to live in the west of Brisbane in one of the suburbs but to start off with will be renting an apartment in the city.

Good luck

Hi Janet, yes it will be great to meet up. We are looking at renting in Cleveland as a start and then have a good look around different areas for something more permanent.

I'm not planning on starting work at the Mater until sometime in September. I've 2 children Jasmine who is 11 and Oliver who is 6. Quite worried about how Jasmine will settle as she is really not keen on going! How is Ellie feeling about it all?

I'm very excited about it all!
