Default Etiquette-is it me?

I`m always happy to help out and give people a pointer or two, moving over is not easy and people generally have lots of questions, though recently I received an email about an old post and I spent some time composing what I thought was a concise and positive response. That was over 3 weeks ago and to date I have not had so much as an acknowledgement of my response.

Is this the norm, or do I expect too much of people to send a simple thanks?

Hello

same thing has also happened to me, I reply (even though I often dont have the time) and seems like they just get what they want and thats that.

Not all people are as nice as us

An elaboration might be handy, you will gain a responsive result.

I have always found any query asked on this site, has been answered, and have never come across what you have(something unanswered, or a thanks) thats what I mean, hope that makes sense.

Its the net, impersonal or as personal as you wish it to be.

There are no rules. Except the ones which are inforce at the place you happen to be surfing at the time.

Your own expectations let you down. For all you know the person could have had all manner of things happen to them in the meantime..... or maybe it's true, they couldnt be bothered to respond. Still it's all down to your own expectations at the end of day.

Personally I would have thanked you.... however I probably wouldnt have expected one in return.

I fully agree, if someone didn't acknowledge an email, response etc, that would defo annoy me, if it was a lenthy response, to a lenthy question(or anyone surely for that matter), especially in the helpful jest, as it was meant.

Probably get about 80% responses of thanks when I have replied to particular queries. It is odd when people dont even flick back a Ta! but some of them have really difficult things going on in their lives and who am I to be the etiquette police. If I can help then I do so with the expectation of nothing in return, if I get thanks then that is a bonus. You dont have to respond to queries if you dont want to.

The non-thanking thing incenses me, it's just basic bad manners IMO. And even worse is when you answer a query, you get no thanks or acknowledgement, and then some other bugger further down the the thread gives the same answer - and gets thanked!!!!
