We are thinking of upgrading one of our seats to business class on our next flight from the UK. That way, OH and I can take it in turns to have a comfy seat, and hopefully a bit of a sleep. My question is this...assuming the fasten seat belt signs are not on, would they allow one of the kids to come lie with us for a while? Has anyone seen this done?

I am not going with Emirates, but Sing this Friday- so can tell you after that!
Work is flying me business class to UK, and H and D are accompanying me but in economy. I am hoping that small daughter (2 and 3 months) can come and sit with me, as the seat is big enough for both and she cannot bear to be apart from me.
H will then have 2 economy seats to himself.
However I reckon it will be me and D in economy and H luxuriating in business!

Recently flew business with Emirates and they didn't let anyone in who wasn't sitting in business class. There was a family group who looked like they were travelling in split classes and they said they could chat in the economy class area!!!!

I can sort of see why, you could stay in business for a few hours drink all the good wine and swap with your partner who would so the same.
Or even worse a family for 5 could take it in turns

But I want to give my 2 cents of worth more seriously. Basically no one is allowed to enter the business class from the eco although people from business class are allowed to enter the eco class (in the older days just for a ciggy...). So, your OH will appreciate if you out him first in business class because you'll need to stay there for the whole flight ... and by the way, it is the same with kids.
Wish you a pleasant flight.
Cheers

99.9% no. having been cabincrew for b.a and g.f the rules are quite strict. not because airlines are tight but for many reasons.the only time we were alright about it was if the cabin was half empty or if it was a day flight, as less chance of upsetting other full fare pax. it really depends on the crew member in charge, but really the odds are slim. sorry.

Thought I'd send a little update - my seat was upgraded to business class for the entire trip from Scotland to Oz which was excellent. A few times during the first flight, the girls took it in turns to pop up and sit with me and we had a cuddle and read stories. I checked with the crew on boarding and they were totally fine with that.
On the 2nd leg, we had a few problems with my seat mechanics and ended up being moved to a window seat and therefore, we felt it unsuitable for the kids to come through. They did pop in a couple of times to ask for certain items I had in my bag, or just to say hello whilst on a wander. Got to add that economy passengers were coming through to use the toilets in business too and no-one seemed to bothered by it.
As it turns out, OH's frequent flyer points have been refunded by the airline due to the seat (and other) problems so it looks like we'll be upgrading again on our next trip
.
Lucky OH however, is currently planning his 1st class trip to London on the A380 for end of the year - so perhaps busines class will be below him by then lol

Airlines do not normally allow economy passengers to come into BC or First, even to use the toilet but I guess from your experience it will depend on the crew and the attitude of the passenger.
I was travelling back from the UK in BC and a friend of mine was down the back - I had to visit her as she wasn't allowed to come up to me. However, I had a few drinks with dinner (oh and a few in the lounge before getting on) and promptly fell asleep until about an hour before landing!!!!! The crew had kindly cleaned away my plates, put my bed down and covered me with a blanket

we took our trip back in June- me officially in BC and Mr P and Miss P in economy.
Crew would not let Ms P come to me (except for take off and landing to keep her happy), but did not mind me and Mr P swapping seats. Maybe it is all down to the crew. They also gave the 2 in economy, 3 seats together, so daughter got to sleep stretched across the seats.
Although the A380 seats in BC were good, I am not sure they were worth $8k. Still the economy seats were a bargain at $3k for 2...
A380 also developed a technical fault so we left London 3 hours late and missed our connection. Being BC passenger they gave me a lovely hotel and the 2 scroungers in economy got upgraded to my posh stopover hotel to share my room!

At least they let them use it, that's good
. When we were organising my BC seat the airline asked if I'd like the chauffeur pick up but very politely reminded OH that he and the kids would NOT be allowed to join me, regardless of the fact that there would be space in the car for them !!

Depending on your mood at the time, that could be a tough call to make.
