Default Electricity question?

Ok we have had several power cuts recently, not in the area, just our house. Arrived home late Sat night and the place was in darkness, all the trip switches and the mains were off.
Since then it has gone of several times but now just the mains switch turns off.
How do we find what is causing it as when we turn it back on everything is working as before
Who do we contact to check it out? A electrician or service provider? The house is 18 months old.

The problem is on your property so call an electrician. The power company will not be interested.

We had that for a while. Turned out our power supply didn't like our UK toaster which was only plugged in when needed.

Before calling out a sparky, as others have done, try eliminating devices to find out which one is tripping the RCD.

Once you;ve narrowed it down you can decide what to do.

Have you recently bought or lugged somehting in? Does it happen at certain times? Have you got any multi adapters/power baords around?

Trying to narrow it down, the only things on Sat night were the fridge, a couple of lights, TV on standby with all the surround sound etc.. Various plug sockets on but not in use.

It doesnt happen at the same time each day. Sometimes goes off a couple of times a day, never went off yesterday and was using the same items

visually check the power leads for the fridge, freezer, waching machine or any other white goods. You may have vermin damage to a cable. The fridge and freezer would be a good one to start with as they have electric motors and they are always warm and Mice like to nest in a warm place. Mice like to chew the insulation on cables so be very careful not to touch any part of the cable that you can not see if it is still connected to the power.
