Now the warmer outside than in, is something I can relate to... How the Hell does that work?. I was forever going outside in mid-Winter to warm up?

I would love to move to QLD, but we have to go where the work is. This said, so far I have followed the same path Rudi has, so Brisbane must be our next move.

yep - give it a couple of years and then move here.....you never know I might even stay here and we may get to be proper buddies rather than internet and occasional coffee buddies

I have even found you some houses to buy....

Bejaysus, what's with those prices? I would get a studio apartment overlooking a carpark for that here.

yes, trying to find a small patch of sunshine with a deckchair and a mug of hot tea. I refrained from the fingerless gloves and grey wooly hat incase I was arrested for being a vagrant!

My last 5 quarterly bills, (after deducting the Ambulance charge):
18-Sep-07 $454.95
05-Dec-07 $439.25
16-Mar-08 $482.90
16-Jun-08 $461.60
16-Sep-08 $519.45 14% increase since last sept !

That's $35.30 pw last year, and probably about $40pw this year, following the price rise.

That is for a 5 bed house, 2 computers running 18 hours a day, pool pump and pool heating pump both running ?? hours a day, 2 PVR's, 2 DVD's, 3 TV's, etc all left on standby when not actually on.
3 Reverse cycle units in the house, Light bulbs left on way too much...

All electric, no gas.

If I did what my neighbours do and turn everything off at night I reckon I could save 20% !

Yep mate ! Queenslanders are charged an ambulance rate within their electric bill then don't have to pay a set fee if an ambulance is called out like other states i believe

Correct. It covers all Queenslanders, anywhere in Australia, even those who don't have electricity !

I'm hardy brought up in a house with no central heating - fond memories of chilblains on hot water bottles

Hey I come from 1960s Redcar - had my bath in a washing up bowl in front of the coal fire every Sunday teatime, whether I needed it or not. 6 years in Asia has softened me up.

Friends of ours in Melbourne set about systematically partitioning their completely open plan home as it got completely bloody freezing.
