We bought an electric blanket the weekend before last & I love it
Nice & toasty warm when I go to bed & when I get up at 5am to make hubby a coffee to take to work I flick it on again for a bit & snuggle back down until my alarm goes off.

We have an electric blanket. It has dual controls because I like to get into a cold bed whereas Deb prefers a toasty warm one. It's not very often I put my side on, usually it's if my back aches after a hard day at the mill.

Hate them, unless it is on the massage table. I love a cold bed and then during the night as I warm up I search for the cold spots. Having said that the heating does come on at 6 to make the house warm before OH gets up to make teA

Yep!
Best purchase we ever made here! I can never seem to warm up in a cold bed and then I can't sleep....so all good. Never needed one in the UK when we had proper central heating, it's one thing I really miss!

Ohhhh, wouldn't that be nice? We have a couple of freestanding heaters in the lounge, with timers, but it's not the same. We only have one on in the bedroom if it's really, really cold, and not on when we're in there as I think it's unhealthy.
Grew up with electric blankets but really couldn't bear to use one now. I love to be warm but like the feel of getting into cold, crisp bedding. Didn't use more than an empty duvet cover on the bed for six years in Asia and it's actually taken some getting used to having a duvet again.
With three cats sleeping on me every night, I certainly don't need a hot water bottle

I'm the saddo that watches all the property and DIY programs - never do anything myself but can recite all the Canadian building regulations
Canada seems to like underfloor heating and it makes so much sense to me for background heating here. We had it in an ex-council student flat I lived in in the early 80s and, on the rare occasion we could afford to put it on, we used to roll up the carpet and lie on the floor. Bliss.
(We also stayed in a hotel in the Hunter with a heated bathroom floor. God, did it need it.)

Love my electric blanket, and also my warm wheat pack.
We have a gas fire in the lounge, which I can't work, and a portable gas heater. I try not to turn it on unless someone else is in the house with me. ATM I'm sitting in long sleeved top, fleece and duvet coat. It is about 15 degrees in the house. OK if you are moving, but not if you are sitting. Will go and warm up the wheat pack now. Better than housework- at least till I've had my cup of coffee.
I miss central heating, insulation and double-glazing.
BTW how do you go about getting a service for your heaters? Plumbers seem to do gas fitting, but what about regular servicing??
