Default EKKA

Well I have been talked into going to the EKKA again this year!
It's a really good day but I need a small bank loan for food, rides, show bags etc (I do love it though )

Any other Queenslanders going or been?

We went once but as it was so hideously expensive we agreed once was enough, not that we are well placed to go again anyway :-)

Went once. Been there, done that, didn't buy the t shirt but have no intention of ever going again. A fairly god awful experience if I remember rightly.

I've noticed that they've finally taken the EKKA public holiday away from GC schools, well our school anyway. Never understood why we got it in the first place when we already have the GC Show day.

Not going, didn't go last year. No interest in going.

Lots of mediocre fairground rides, nightmare parking, crowded.

My Australian experience does not need to include something I could have got at Glasgow Green

The most bizarre thing about the whole experience is the showbags...I mean, WTF is the deal with the hysteria over bags of crap that couldn't otherwise be sold!

...and show bag listings are published in the newspaper so you can decide in advance which bags of crap you must have this season!

Went on sunday, tickets not too bad, discounted on line so about $50 for 4 people.

Arrived just in time to watch a lamb give birth to twins in the nursery section, pretty amazing, watched till they both stood up.

Some Show bags OK, eg the abbots bakery bag, about $20 of healthy food items we use for $10.

Ate an amazing amount of free food at the woolworth display, steak, fresh salmon hazelnut chocolate, macadamia nut bars, very yummy totally free lunch, mind you later on that place was just too busy. Also sampled quite a few wines.

Watched some clydesdale horses, sheep dog trials, and looked at the photography etc.

Got a years worth of free pens from various displays partner had a hearing test and settled argument finally that he is party deaf - builder they never used to use safety equipment, it was seen as wussy idiots

Didnt do the rides, looked busy though.

Not a bad day out, but it was very busy - being sunday I guess. I think once inside we only spent about $40, coffee, dagwood dogs for the men - yuck - and the bread show bag.

Got 4 free tickets...

So will be going with the kids. Couple of basic rules though:

1) There will be no show bag crap. - There's no way I'm handing over money for a bag of marketing material - I just don't understand why anybody does?!

2) There will be no rides. If the kids want to go on rides we'll go to Dreamworld. The rides are better and its much cheaper at $60 unlimited entry for the whole year!

... So we'll go and checkout some animals, perhaps we'll see what's on in the main arena and probably clear out after an hour or 2.

Fascinating, but sad in a way, cute lambs heading for the dinner table in reality

It was an interesting observation on today's kids too.

Nearly all would appear with their I Phone, show no interest at all at the newborn lambs but take several pics of the afterbirth or anatomy associated with birth. and move on.

Very weird, I was taken aback but thats the reality of todays kids for you. Kids aint kids anymore
