Ever heard of heat of the moment? He did have the decency to retract what he had said publicly.

But OUCH !
I watched it live and in all the years I have been a football fan, never have I seen such shock on players faces. I was beginning to wonder if Eduardo was deceased after 7 minutes of no movement and the look of bewilderment on the teams faces.

Malicious or not, there is no room in football for a tackle like that. Players know that if the studs go in, they are risking another professionals career.

I was reading the BBC 606 message board this morning and was pleased to see all but one were wishing Eduardo well. The single poster said that Arsenal are a team of professional foulers and divers and so Eduardo's injuries and possibly 1½ seasons out of the game, was deserved. Sicko. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

How many years have you been watching football? Watch the 2 games this afternoon and you'll see 10-15 challenges where the studs are showing, it happens all the time. Unfortunely every now and again something like this will happen. If his ankle doesnt stick into the turf or snap so easily he would've have been booked at most. As for Arsene Wenger I understand the heat of the moment but the mans a fool, anyone watching could see he never meant to do it, sometimes he needs to count to 10. Amazing how he never saw the tackles on the united players last week which could of (and any tackle can) end a career. Its football and these things happen in a contact sport. I just hope he gets to play again.

I've been watching football for 37 years and, I played when I was much younger and I was a referee for afew years also. Look at the incident in slow motion, the guy went for the shin then hit the ankle and foot. Why are you having a go about what Arsene Wenger said and the way he reacted for goodness sakes, surely it's the tackle that should be condemned?

AW is far from a fool btw, he's an extremely intelligent and highly educated man.

So I assume you gave a red card to every player who went in with their studs showing? How about leaving your boot in when defenders are clearing the ball, happens 5 times a game, could have exactly the same effect - Send them off as well? How many players would you have left after 30 minutes, let alone 90.
The idea of taking this kind of contact out of football will be its death. You are over reacting. It was miss-timed thats all, if AW has now seen that why can't you?

BTW extremely intelligent and highly educated men can still be fools, Tony Blair went to Cambridge!

In slow mo it looks so much worse than it was.........still awful tho and deserved a red.

I agree with Dann in the fact that if you gave cards out for everything you would not have any players on the pitch.

As for Wenger saying that Taylor should not be allowed to play footy ever again was a massive over reaction which i think most managers would have said in the same position.

He soon retracted that, and Taylor has only ever had one red card before in his career.

They say that the guy who got red carded is pretty distraught too at the extent at what happened.

I started this thread not as a debate as to what should be done or how bad footy has become it started as a best wishes thread to a player who may well have had his very succesful and short lived career eneded so abrubptly.

Get well soon Eduardo.........

Dan, the referee was standing right on the spot and had the red out in half a second. No one on the pitch argued with him but somehow you know better from your armchair?

Hope he gets better! Alan Smith had a nasty one at Liverpool and made it back. They can do wonders these days, so hope he manages to get back playing soon.

The latest on the guy sounds pretty good.........broken fibula and dislocated ankle he could be back by end of year.

Good luck.

Taylor is not a dirty player and the tackle was just mistimed, the Sun newspaper has printed this.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...icle846077.ece

and a call for a Liverpool type ban on the Sun newspaperis already in motion around Birmingham.

I agree. I quite like AW but at times he talks nonsense. Oh I soooo miss MOTD. Anybody know where I can get it from?
Hey Dan2000 I am from Aylesbury (born and bred). How is it back there?

AW is no fool. Far from it but in the heat of the moment he does say some foolish things, "I did not see it" when even he knows we know he saw it. I suppose we probably all would if a camera and microphone got thrust at you straight after the game but he's got the experience to handle this type of situation better.
Also he has got to be more consistant with his criticism. I don't remember him condemming Eboue when made a bad tackle on JT (straight red) and broke 3 bones in his foot.
I soooo miss MOTD!!

When did you leave? I've lived here 10 years and things dont tend to change too much. To watch MOTD can you download the BBC iplayer? Allows you to watch BBC programmes upto a week after event, not sure if you'll be allowed as you're abroad? If not I can give you another link, PM me and I'll send it to you.
We have just started our application and I do worry how much I'll miss the live footie(on at a decent time) Do you stay up late or get up early to watch any games?

For MoTD go to

http://www.mininova.org/

and download the Torrents. Depends how fast your internet connection is but it can be done with a bit of patience and computer literacy.

Still an awesome sports program.
