I don't mind Micallef so much, at least he is different. But I completely agree with you on the others. I cannot believe the amount of brain dead Aussies that think Rove is funny. He has absolutely no idea how to deliver a joke convincingly
He was very funny when he had his own shows, even the last one on SBS was good, it was a piss-take news programme. The name escapes me for the moment. Rove was not funny, but he had a team around him who were funny. But all you need to do is watch a few BBC comedy panel shows and you realise the dearth of witty and intelligent humour on Australian TV. JTL |

Burbage:
I just buy dvd's of the few excellent programmes. Works out cheaper than Austar, you can watch them when you like, and there are no ads. Now going to be on the hunt for "dexter" "eastbound and down" "true blood" "no1 detectives agency". Broad Shoulders: unfortunately I've worked with many a mundane tw@t that thinks he is the funniest thing on earth |
Re: Eddie Mcguire
[QUOTE=West Vic;8383240]Thing is though I don't know any Aussies that do like Rove or McGuire. So why are they on tv? What goes on at these TV Exec board meetings? What do they base their decisions on?? It truly has me baffled as to some of the stuff that is aired on tv.
The reason Rove and Eddie Mcguire are on TV so much is they have very senior and powerful allies within terrestrial TV. I have had this discussion with many a local who agree, Eddie Macquire looks like an accountant, talks like an accountant and has absolutely no charisma. What he does have is an ambition that is extremely high and he was not afraid to shine shoes and work his way up. Town Comedians in Australia tend to get all the gigs too, pretty much all shows and current affairs are man'd by the likes of Rove, Hellier, Will Anderson, Dave hughes, Julia Zimiro etc etc etc. Foxtel is the best $100 I spend my disposable income on a month so I dont have to watch these fools. |
Re: Eddie Mcguire
So because they lick arse they get all the gigs? Or do they know something about TV Execs that they use to their advantage?? Hmmmm. I also think these execs are too afraid to take a chance on anything different.

Re: Eddie Mcguire
Eddie was the pits at the olympics. He had no clue what he was saying and was often paired with an intelligent expert commentator who gave us lots of interesting information. Only to be parroted by Eddie a few seconds later. The worst was when he was hogging to commentating as people crossed the finish line and it was all verbatim what the other commentator had said. Didn't fool me.
Oh and calling the puck a ball when talking to Wayne Gretzky. Classic. |
