E10 vs. regular unleaded
Every little helps, as the saying goes, so it makes sense to buy cheaper E10 unleaded over regular unleaded, right? Except, it's false economy. I think I have found that, for our dream machine (hand-me-down 2009 Toyota Camry auto) my fuel economy is much worse with E10 compared to regular unleaded.
A tank of E10 gets me about 500km on average (mostly town driving). Regular unleaded gets me to 550km, sometimes close to 600km if I drive really sympathetically, but always well over 600km on a long journey. Bye bye E10. Anyone with similar/contrary experience? |
Re: E10 vs. regular unleaded
that's pretty much my experience as well, although the difference on our venerable old Mazda 121 is not as marked. I mainly fill with 91 RON unleaded and approx 1 in 4 fills with E10.
This article covers the differences fairly well. Be warned that the profanity-laden content is quite addictive (imho)! |
Re: E10 vs. regular unleaded
I have run some tests. Up the coast from Sydney is a little privately run petrol station. He claims his fuel is not watered down and will go longer that the big boy across the road. He charges the same price.
He is right. I always get further on his fuel. He also says the big boy across the road (one of the big oil companies) continually threatens him as he blatantly advertises with a big banner his fuel will go longer. |
Re: E10 vs. regular unleaded
Go diesel (a proper fuel - and I don't buy into this leftie, harmful emissions mumbo jumbo that is currently sweeping Europe) - 900kms on 55 litres

I've owned diesels for 30 years and just find them better to drive. |

yes, but also a counter-balance to the car company marketing spiel.

Re: E10 vs. regular unleaded
There are lots of threads like this regarding E10. I wouldn't put it in my own car.
