Default DVLA Driving Licence

Have returned to UK for a month and still have UK driving licence, valid for another couple of years. It has our old UK address on it and i don't think i have updated any records with the DVLA.

Can i still drive on this licence?
Can i hire a car on the UK licence?
DO i need to change details with the DVLA?

Should i just use my NSW licence for car hire etc?

Thanks

You cant renew or amend a UK picture licence with DVLA if you are not a UK resident. You have to declare that you are a UK resident when you make your application...... and I'm assuming you aren't. UK Picture licences expire every 10 years (the date is on the front of the licence) and at that point (certainly in Europe) you have to exchange it for a licence of the country of your residence.

With countries where there is a licence agreement, DVLA accept that there will be an incorrect address on your licence until you renew / exchange it. Crazy, I know ... but that's how it works.

I'm assuming you can use the licence you have, but then again I'm not sure how you stand having two licences. Its probably different in NZ, but certainly in Europe you have to surrender your UK licence to get one in the country you are residing in

I dont think i was reqd to surrender the UK licence when applying and receiving a NSW licence. Maybe there is an agreement between Australia and UK?

To be safe, i guess i should use the NSW licence

I renewed my UK licence and updated the address to my folks house when I was back last, so I have another 10 years on it until the photo runs out.

Is asks if you are a resident, and yes, I was resident, albeit for the three weeks I was there.

No problems.

Yes, for sure ..... just so people know though, you have to make a false declaration to do that
