Default DVD - A Burning Question!

How do you guys burn TV shows you've downloaded onto DVD's?

I've downloaded a TV show (.avi) using a Torrent site (Mini Nova), saved to Azureus.

I can play it on my PC using the VLC Media Player. However, I'm having trouble burning it to a DVD.

Tried with Nero Version 6. Just keep getting message that it can't be created - even before I put a disc in the computer.

Any suggestions?

I just copy it to a Rewriteable DVD as a data file with Nero Smart Start. Many, but not all, DVD players will play DivX / multi-format files and thus play this. We are thinking of paying $50-70 for another one so we can do this in both lounges.

Converting to proper DVD takes ages and uses a lot of discs.

Yeah as other's have said either buy a player or get something like avi2dvd.

I use ConvertXtoDVD to convert my avi's to DVD (but it also convert's other formats)

Really easy to use works every time. It depends how big the file is on how long it take's. A 2 hour program can take an hour & 15 mins to get on DVD for example. You can get more than one avi on the DVD. Watch the DVD-RW then reuse.

Go to:
http://www.snappertools.com/firestorm/index.htm
download , install and enjoy
Takes about 2 min. to burn 3 X 700mb films
Have found if burning 5 films (to one disc)it seems to have errors but perfect
on TV series 4.5gb -strange but not a problem:

This is presuming you have a DIVX compatible player
$30 at Strathfield

Bazza Boy

Also if you can only play on VLC Media Player on the computer
burn the smaller file ( cue. or bin.-cant remember which is the smallest)
and you will get a DIVX playable disc. (with Firestorm ) url above

dvdflick is free to download but takes a long time to convert to dvd format as all these programs do. Good quality conversion though.

If you want to burn into a "proper" DVD format (ie, with Video TS and Audio TS folders on the completed disc) you need an authoring program. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author 2.0 - you can download a free trial.

It takes yu through the formats, making a DVD menu and a simulation of the disc before burning so you can check the menus work OK. And you can cut out sections and add chapters. Then it burns the DVD, and you use it in a normal DVD player, menus and all.

As above, but you can also use "ConvertXtoDVD" or Nero 8 has the software too.

I always use Aimersoft DVD Creator, it can easily convert all popular video formats (AVI, MP4, MPG, MPEG, 3GP, WMV, ASF, RM, RMVB, DAT, MOV, FLV, etc) to DVD and burn DVD movie played on portable and home DVD players, that's very good, you can check it out for free

Thanks for all your advice.

So I download the Prism software, and hey presto, the burning seems to work (over 30 minutes or so).

But then, when the 'Writing to Disc' bar comes up it fails:

'Error Writing to Disc'

So WTF is causing this?

Try erasing it first, whether recorded or not. If it's not formatted it becomes effectively a DVD R only. I had the same problem last week.

Or!!! ...

Buy a Telefunken cheapie DVD player with a USB input.

Plug a USB stick into your PC,

drag and drop the movie onto stick,

plug into DVD player ...

And press play!

No burning necessary ...

Too easy!
