Hi BE me again need to see if some of you guys can break down the health care for me into easy terms as i am not the brightest.
When me and my Family arrive on a 457 Visa will be entitled to health cover if so what will we be entitled to. from Doctors, hospitals and medication.
Will i need to get private health cover if so what would cost would be involved for a family for four.

If i broke my leg would i be able to go to any hospital if i didnt have private health cover and was on a 457 visa.
would i be covered or would i need to pay?
I have heard that you get charged if you have to call an ambulance is this the case.
there will b e question i havent asked if you could advise anything that would help .
this all probbably sounds a bit silly but i really dont know and your help would be appreciated as i have two young kids and dont want to get caught out.

You will be entitled to emergency treatment through reciprocal agreement with the NHS. You can be treated without charge in a public hospital or at your local bulk billing GP. Your cost of medication is not covered unless an inpatient in a public hospital.
Will i need to get private health cover if so what would cost would be involved for a family for four.
Yes, you will need to get private cover. Depending on what you want it can be anywhere from $50 to $200 per month.

You could, but you would have to pay. You can go to any public hospital and be treated for emergency/urgent needs.

For emergency you're covered. If not emergent you pay. As an example...
I work in a public hospital where part of my job is booking surgical procedures. We had a lady who came to the clinic needing a diagnostic coronary angiogram for angina. She was here in Australia on a 457 and because it was not emergency surgery and she was not an inpatient Medicare did not cover the cost of the procedure. Her choices were to either pay the cost or go back to UK to have it done. It was cheaper for her to go back to have it done in UK. If she had private cover she could have had it done at a private hospital within a couple of days and only paid the gap (couple of hundred dollars total)
I have heard that you get charged if you have to call an ambulance is this the case.
Yes. Ambulance is not covered here. It's very very expensive, so at the very least get yourself ambulance cover.

Your private cover will have options as far as dental is concerned.
