Default DofE Award Australia

Anyone's kids done it or anyone done it themselves? DS is a little young yet, so am thinking ahead and am hoping both he and L will be interested, but just wondered what the experiences of it here are?

They are both in the Scouts and am hoping this would be a natural progression for them. I would have loved the opportunity to do it when I was younger

My middle child, who is 16, has attained the bronze and silver awards and is working towards gold. She has really enjoyed the activities/challenges (even hiking and camping in the torrential rain) and has tried things she might not have done otherwise.

Here in Qld the award scheme is run by the state government, but at a local level the school has a member of staff whose duties include being DofE co-ordinator: she acts as a supervisor and gives advice and support, which helps tremendously. The school now encourages all Year 10 students to work towards the bronze award and periodically provides information to the school community about the activities participants are undertaking, which is always interesting to see.

Overall it has been an enriching and positive experience for my daughter.
